Hi All

Not much info of a problem my friend is having because I haven't
beable to go around yet, to see what's wrong, but hope You guys and gals
have any ideas on how to solve the problem.

PS/2 Optical Mouse, PC boots up right according to her and PS/2 Keyboard
works fine, she cannot Left Click or Right Click on anything, the laser light
comes on the mouse and have bought a new one
and it does the same thing, please help solve the problem.
I was hoping to solve it by phone because she's quiet a distance away,
and have no car to go there.

Thanks

It might be the PS2 port on the motherboard that is damaged.
I found that you also get this if the pins are bent and 2 of them end up 1 hole but the fact that an other mouse has also been tested, minimise the chances for this.

1. Check that the pins of the PS2 mouse aren't bent.
2. If a pin is missing/broken, check that is not still in the PS2 port(pc side) and
remove if so.
3. If that don't work, try to get a PS2 to usb converter for a mouse(normally
green colour, instead of purple) and plug into usb port. This does not always
work.
4. Buy an usb optical mouse. (recommended)

WIN XP Settings

Hi All

Don't you think it's got something to do with Win XP Setttings ?

Thanks

Is your friend running Windows XP, 7, Vista, other?
How old is the PC - if it's a much older board running Win95 for example, it may not recognise a USB mouse, but that should be no problem with a PS2 device.

Try a PS2-to-USB adapter first:

yes the time is now optical mouses are the past... + you can get a decent usb mouse for no less than R90 bucs.
