Hi Guys,

I want to get fibre with Optinetworks as their one specific package blows the other providers out of the water. Does anybody have any info about this provider, good / bad, etc? :) Really hoping somebody has heard about them.

Here is the great package: https://shop.vumatel.co.za/package/4yWa2hZ6BE

Kind Regards,

Kyle

Opticnetworks was established in 2013

Also, their page for Fibre doesn't work. But hey, it's month to month, so why not test them and cancel if they can't deliver? Can't beat that free installation, but I am sure there is a small print for this somewhere.

This is the guy who sold out all the NextGenNews customers to make a quick buck. Stay away so he doesn't make any more money.

Bail bail bail bail

They'll close up shop after debit orders and claim NDA till the cows come home

Not going to say much. Had a little experience. End review is avoid for now. After you pay, don't be surprised he doesn't respond to you.

Was also wanting to go with them. Glad I saw this thread first.

I see on their Vumatel page that they support IPV6

Static IPv4, as well as IPv6 (/48 prefix) IP addresses

This is the first time I see a home ISP offering this in SA. Would be nice if the other ISP's on Vumatel also start offering this.

Vumatel doesn't support v6 :)

I have been using them for a month and my experience has been amazing. Gaming is top notch and steaming is great, even with multiple users. I've had no reason to contact Chris after the installation and am very happy with the service. 20/10 Uncapped Fibre on Openserve.

I'd definitely stay away. The NGN story was a clear indication of how their customers get treated when difficult decisions need to be made (they made the wrong ones).

I think the point is that it's like a Pyramid scheme, while it's running it's amazing, but the moment the storm comes everybody is up crap creek with 0 support

Apologies for my ignorance but what happened with NGN and how is it related to OpticNetworks? And if its bad is it likely to happen to OpticNetworks?

They sold off the company and never mentioned anything to their clients about this until the new owners discontinued the service and left the clients with zero recourse.

Effective the 1st of Jan 2018, NGN has been sold due to pressure from bigger players in the market. It looks like the purchaser pulled the plug on the brand.

As to what happened to NGN, I am unfortunately bound by non-disclosure. All I can say, is with Astraweb now being owned by HighWinds, Usenet is pretty much becoming one big fat monopoly. Hybrid providers (like NGN was), is seen as the sworn enemy.

As to the rest of the comments that's been made and posted... You're welcome to form your own opinions I suppose. I am not going to be drawn into a public debate as to what did and did not happen. The simple fact is, I can not talk about it.

Linkedin for Savage confirmed ownership of NGN and Optic

Wef 31 May 2018 Opticnetworks will no longer be an ISP on the Vumatel network. Their clients will need to find a new ISP.

I was super keen to sign up with them. Fortunately I'm still waiting for fibre.

I am with them, big mistake . Buying cheap = buying expensive.

They are going off the Vuma network 31/05/2018 so everyone needs to change to another provider…
