My stats... http://ny-monitor.dslreports.com/tweak/block:3ceae19?service=dsl&speed=512&os=win2k&via=routerpppoe

This is with a 10/100MB Ethernet LAN, and a ZyXEL Ethernet Router. 100% is rather good I'd say... Just a pitty the speed is slow.

To optimise your own...
http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

This helps you configure your OS to optimise the packets it transmits to the Internet, and because of that, there will be less packet loss, which results in better throughput.

IMHO, very helpful...

In my opinion this is all really very unnecessary. I used to go after these tweaks to optimize my connection, but a couple of years ago I decided it ain't worth it. I mean, what exactly is it supposed to improve? I did a fresh install of Windows XP about two years ago and I have not done any of this optimizations. I left it at its default settings, and I'm getting low pings and I pretty much always hit maximum download speed.

Lol

I really don't think you would see the difference in your internet speeds after optimization. In ZA though it would really be the difference between a connection and almost no connection. Especially when you have this Damn Slow Link.

No offence Jerrek

Another good reason why it's important to optimise... 5:43AM, I currently am doing:
- 2 x local FTP Trasfers (Mirrors)
- 1 x Streaming Windows Media from US (Been going for 3 days without a problem now)
- 1 x HTTP Download, 103MB MP3, International
- eDonkey, +-10KB/s

My local stats (MRTG / RRD)... Current In: 287kb/s, Current Out: 42.5kb/s (Bits).

While all of this is running and my switches looks like a rave, my speed test (International), is 371kbit/s, and (Local), is 393kbit/s. Thus they are at the moment pretty equal (due to the high amount of data being transmitted), and should they eventually become idle, I'm pretty sure International, my speed tests will be pretty much in the high 400's without a problem.

Optimising your PC to send the correctly sized tcp packets increase your speed significantly, because there is drastically less packet loss (less packets to "resend"), as well as a few other nifty things it does that helps a hellofallot :) Oh, did I mention that it makes "streaming" transmissions, i.e. shoutcase, mms, etc sound like your local radio station? I've been listening almost non stop to steaming audio now for 3 or 4 days, I am yet to get a packet lost on Windows Media Player...

Hey Savage

Would the optimisation for games differ from that of surfing and downloading?

I've not been able to play for like 2 weeks.

I feel like an addict without his shots.

LOL

I have tried many of this so called tweakers for internet , and that’s when i had a normal 56k line and ISDN 128k and now currently have ADSL
and about 10 minutes ago tried a tweaker for ADSL claiming to increase speed , i have figured out this will never work because of the Bandwidth restrictions that we have so there is no point in trying , because 99% is that what ever u getting now is the best u ever gona get on your current line .

This tweakers are just usless its just some guys trying to make money they might work but only in developed countrys

Hey all. We have setup the local edonkey server. Point donkey to zahub.kicks-ass.net port: 4661 [:D][8D][:D] You can visit http://zahub.kicks-ass.net for more info on other P2P networks for SA
