Since downloading and installing the latest software and firmware from the www.vodacom.co.za site, my Option data card will crash (both lights flashes alternately) randomly. This is always followed shortly after the datacard crash by a Blue Screen of Death crash for Windows. The BSOD states DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and g3gcumdm.sys as the culprit.

This ONLY happens on a GPRS connection. When using 3G, all is fine. This was never a problem with the original drivers and firmware.

I have tried re-installing the new drivers to no avail. Before reverting to older drivers and possibly an older firmware, I want to check if anyone else had this problem and if there is a solution.

I'm not even sure where I'll get the older firmware, and if I can't find it, if the older drivers will work with the new firmware.

I REALLY need GPRS as I sometimes have to do work outside of 3G coverage.

I didn't think of writing down the previous version of the firmware, but it was the one that the card came out with.

According to the pictures on the Vodacom web site it is an Option Colt card.

How do I determine the cell id of the current tower?

Etienne

Cell ID you can get from any 2G cellphone with the cell info display activated. It will give you the ID of the base station currently providing you with reception.

3G base stations do not broadcast Cell ID's, so if you have a 3G handset, just make sure that you have set it to GSM only to get the current Cell ID.

Might also be an idea to call 155 and log a query with them too?

Hmm, this forum is my first stop when I have a problem as it tends to be more informative than the 155 number

Anyway, I'll get the cellids, but so far it crashed at three different locations, one without 3G and two with 3G (I used GPRS there to test if it will crash, which it did).

So it does not seem to be tower related.

I'll log a call at 155 and try and get a older version firmware from them.

Better to PM me and I'll get the software to you.

What is your current firmaware version? Look under Tools->Diagnostics.
What is your current VMC (dash) version? Look under Help->About...

Any news
