Option Card Has Crashed - What Now?

rabbiddog, check the rev for me please. Using the dash, go to tols -> diagnostics.

It should read something like 3.1.2 or 3.1.4.

It might be related to your problem.

Tx!

SMS from Vodacom:

Please be advised that a problem on the 3G network in your area is currently being investigated. Regards,
Now that's exactly what is required when there are problems - to be notified!!! :) Compliments to Vodacom & v3g here, bcos my iBurst experience has been quite the opposite - WBS DO NOT notify their customers via sms, lately not by email either, and they also don't update their Incident Reports page for ages. All I can say is that Vodacom clearly is the better connection (soz MTN but there's a fair amount of catchup to be done there ;)).

Are you guys still battling to connect?

The dash won't update the firmware on the card, only the drivers on the PC. While this won't hurt, whatever caused the problem from last night must be something on the network and must be found and fixed.

I'm waiting for the engineers to come back to me.

Will revert soonest.

Looks like it's caught up to the Freestate now too, was at the hotel and was working fine earlier, went across the road to the Medi-Clinic (apparently that's where the only 3G coverage is at the moment in Bloem, bar maybe the stadiums and "Waterfront") and the same thing as in Jo'burg, no 3G, but GPRS is fine.

Same thing as in Jo'burg, card crashes, won't even switch to GPRS automatically if you are in the 3G preffered profile, you have to force the change to GPRS. Even if you try and force 3G, the card crashes, and the dash says No Network.

Will keep trying through the night, luckily downloaded the software before coming through otherwise I'd be going to the hospital for a different reason, to have my finger surgically removed from a certain part of my anatomy...

Thanks for the updates, even though there's a problem, it's nice to have someone pro-active from the network's side to keep us updated - although I am sure most of us know about problems before you guys even do?

The changes made that caused the unexpected issues with the Option cards is being regressed this evening between 22:30 and 23:30.

This might be service affecting for certain sites in the JHB area. I assume GPRS will stay up during this period.

I mailed Pedro at Vodacom and got a reply.

We are busy looking into the issue. Can you tell me when you started to experiance this?
We did some work on one of our Radio Network Controllers starting at 23h00 last night (14th) ? Does this correlate?

When was the first time it was noticed?
I will chat to Pedro later.

Looks like 3G on Option Cards is still down this morning :(

My Dash is in a perpetual loop where its trying to connect but failing...

I am also still running on GPRS.
3G connects for me but 0 data transfer. I have informed the tech people at vodacom.

i am in wilgeheuwel and 3G working this morning and last night and the night before (14th). Guess they never touched my antenna :)

Hi v3g

Despite the problem, it's refreshing to see a service provider keeping their customers up to date via MyADSL - unlike a particular competitor that prefers to keep their customers in the dark.

I'm sure forumites appreciate your efforts to keep them informed and updated on the status of the problem, well done :).
