Orca Wireless

I started using them yesterday. Installation was painless and on schedule and so far it seems that I am getting what I am paying for speed wise etc.

I was forced to use them because both Vodacom(cannot provide either a decent cellphone or data service in my area) or Telkom who will hopefully install my landline on Tuesday but does not provide adsl because of cable problems????) are unwilling to provide me with a decent broadband service.

Hi Ernstn

How has things been with Orca wireless ? Thinking of using them as well

What speeds do you get, what are the packages/prices etc.?

The only problem I have is that these WISPs are probably illegal (??) because even if they're a member of WAPA, the problem is that (currently) WAPA is not officially recognised by ICASA.

Orca is working well and I have no issues with them, apart from the fact that the maximum speed they offer(512kbps) is a bit slow for me, when downloading. So far they have definitely delivered the service I am paying for.

In fact if they up their speeds, I will not consider ADSL again.

Where I am located, neither Telkom nor Vodacom can provide any decent data service(in fact Vodacom cannot even provide a proper cellular service here). If ICASA wants to interfere here I think that everyone will be up in arms, because then once again they will be interfering with a small operator providing a needed and decent service, on behalf of incumbent national operators not even interested in providing a service which I pay for.

Nice to hear that a wisp is getting a good name for once

At how many kilobits does the download actually download at?
