Order in which to add components

psu in box ( if not already)
cpu on mb with fan
ram on mb
mb in box
hdd in box
connect everything

that's how i do it

Hmmm...i do it differently :p I find that in some small cases that if you put the PSU in first, it makes it harder to screw the screws in on the motherboard to the case that are by the cpu cause then the PSU gets in the way...

CPU on mboard
mboard in case
hdd
dvd
psu
ram
gcard
other pci cards
power cable :)

The most important is this;
NB. Do this outside the box. Processor in mobo, CPU H/S on processor, install ram.
Install PSU. Now insert the mobo into case. The rest is just preference.

EDIT: Pearljam got it rite as well ;D

Thats how I do it as well ... it is easier to install everything ... not sure if there is a more technical reason ... but I've built quite a few PC's and always done it like that.

Folks probably worry about straining the board when clipping the CPU and fan into place It is however impossible to fit new chips and heat sink form factors on a flat surface without suspending the mobo (unless you have a soft surface) as the fan clips straight through the board.

If you put screws where they should be when fitting the motherboard straining would be very difficult... They are pretty tough. I fit PSUs last.

normally i put cpu on mobo and ram
put mobo in box, connecting the power sw and hdd switches
psu
hdd's and optical
then connect everything and sort out cabling

flip da switch and prey

Yep, I prefer to do a minimal test first.

First install the CPU outside the case, simply because there's more elbow-room. Then fit 1 stick of RAM and place the mobo into the case (unsecured, in-case I need to haul it out again). Install the PSU, connect the power, then connect up the case's switches and LED's. Install gfx card only, without any drives.

Power up and pray. Go into the BIOS and check that the RAM and CPU are correct.

Then secure the mobo, install any other RAM, install the HDD and DVD and you should be ready to install your OS.

when working with micro-ATX I find it is advisable to put the mobo with RAM, CPU & HS into the case before putting the PSU.

In all honesty you can even put the PSU in last. I say that because just this week I changed a PSU without removing any other components.
