Ordering ADSL with ISDN line

So my mind is pretty made up that I want to can iBurst, going for ADSL. I have an ISDN line to my house (running over fibre). As I understand ISDN and ADSL don't play together nicely. Will the force me to get another phone line, or will they offer me WiMax?

I thought ISDN ran over copper?

You'd be surprised. We are running off a WAY remote exchange (living pretty much in the bush and all), so they put in a Fibre network. It is possible that they use some fancy cable/fibre work in the local "substation" ... I wouldn't know
 
AFAIK adsl wont run over fibre - unless they put in a mini-dslam in your area. Depending on how far you are from the exchange that might be your only chance of ADSL.

My neighbour's got ADSL ... we were the guinea pigs for ADSL over fibre so to speak ... Telkom was testing that solution in our Estate
 
From my understanding (and I could be way off) they probably installed a mini dslam nearby. If thats the case you should be able to get adsl. Everyplace that I've lived in could accommodate 2 lines so you should be able to keep your ISDN.

They probably did (install a mini dslam), as my neighbour definitely has ADSL. The problem is not getting two lines, but I don't want to pay for the ISDN line rental, and then still another rental for the ADSL "line" ... I don't need/want it, as I already have a phone line

If you want to keep ISDN the ADSL will have to come in on a different line. If you already have a phone line that is separate from your ISDN why not use that?

I don't have a separate line ... that's the whole idea with ISDN2a, so that you can have the Multi Subscriber Numbers, without having an additional line
 
I agree with Landyman - only one cable and fewer mixups.

Downside is, should that line go, then 4 numbers go off as well.

But it makes sense to myself for not paying line rental on 4 separate lines.

Plus ISDN's quality is better than a standard telephone line.
 
They won't offer you Wimax unless you can't get ADSL and they won't offer you ADSL over ISDN so you're pretty much stuck with installing another line.
 
Update: My wife will not be using the home office on a full time schedule anymore (changed jobs), so most of the lines will become redundant ... Will "downgrade" the ISDN to a normal line.

Question: What would be the best way to do this?

1. Downgrade ISDN and then do ADSL self install
2. Get line and ADSL and cancel ISDN

Dunno :confused:
