Hi Guys,

A few years ago I ordered a DVD from Amazon.com and it worked me out a lot cheaper than having to get it locally. Now after this they stopped shipping to SA, but it now seems they have started shipping here again.

What I'm worried about is this:

Please note that your country may charge import duties, taxes and fees that you may have to pay ahead of delivery. Learn more

The total invoice comes to R150 less than I can get the DVD locally and thats including shipping, however I am worried that there are extra charges levied on delivery. How would I know if this is the case?

Does anybody here order from Amazon and do you have any info for me?

Thanks!

Contact customs. They hopefully should be able to give you an indication.

I've never been charged custom fees on my gift wrapped items

I don't order from amazon.com ... rather amazon.co.uk because I don't have to search as hard for region 2 dvd's. Yeah .. I'm lazy that way :)

if i buy a 2nd hand 2007 transformers game (PS2) on amazon.co.uk which is costing ÂŁ1.30. how much will i pay for delivery, in fact how much will i end up paying for the whole thing .

Just add it to your shopping cart and head on over to see the currency conversion (It gives the shipping costs too). Though You have to pay a fee to SAPO (Criminal!!!).

AFAIK you cannot order games from Amazon. Correct me if things have changed.

I have not bought games ... but some of the second hand dealers or other sellers I think sell goods like that overseas .... not sure ... I just buy DVD's and Books

how much do you save ?

Well on DVD's it depends ... I have bought a few box sets ... being a big Agatha Christie fan I buy the ITV productions (since the stoped airing them on Hallmark/Universal I had to invest) ... in SA for the Marple set of seasons 1-3 they wanted to charge me R900 @ the time ... I bought it on Amazon.co.uk for R380 + R50 to SAPO ... I then bought the Poirot complete collection for about R550 + R80 SAPO ... they wanted to charge me over R1000 for the box set in SA. I think it really just depends ... bargain hunt!!! Some DVD's it's not worth it, like new releases ... i think they balance out. But prices drop quicker on amazon after a new release starts to get older. We are not always so lucky here.

Books I really do save on ... in SA books are over-priced ... the nice thing about Amazon is for a lot of the books they have different editions ... making some really dirt cheap.

Be careful with Amazon's posting and packiging costs.Whenever you order something thats on special from them, esp. blu rays and books, they increase these prices.Dont worry about the vat -its always 14% on the value of the product without the pac and post that Amazon charges you.

I ordered some records off amazon 2 weeks ago, eta for delivery - 2nd NOVEMBER!
