This is a bad one for South Africa. The match between England and USA was marred by chaos on the side of the African organisers. While on paper all looked fine when it came to the implementation all went wrong.

What I found very interesting is the quick arrest, trial and sentence in the case of the armed journalists robbery. Normaly South Africans have to wait years for cases to be concluded ! ! !

I can see that driving through townships with no street lights might be of concern to visitors and that should not be happening (Rustenburg) But appart from that the rest to me just sounds like booking issues by the people who are now complaining about not having place to stay and what not. Buy a Tent ffs. This is Africa, we camp allot they can too if they didn't book their accomodation before coming to SA ;)

Traffic and Toll booths will happen all over the world, it's not a world first. This writer in all honesty must have been living in a bomb shelter in Germany all his life :D Has he never been in traffic on the Autobahn :confused:

Long story short, the writer is bitching about Traffic, driving through Townships with no lighting after the England game last night and people not having place to stay.

They hosted the last WC and it was a great success. Unfortunately Germans hate it if they are being outshined. And SA 2010 is exactly doing that. This is the reason they are so sour :D

As for England, I stayed there a couple of years (big Man City fan) but not a real footbal man. Rugby FTW. I should actually be rooting for Germany :o But I never stayed there for longer than a few weeks a year....

SA organizers off to a rocky start

After the first few matches FIFA reaches a preliminary judgement "We are still at the beginning".

Traffic chaos, empty seats and transport problems: It was a rocky start.

Especially problematic was the security-heavy game between Eng & USA (1:1) in Rustenburg. The highway coming from Pta came to an almost complete stop due to the newly built toll gates. After that the one lane traffic continued up to the stadiums at a snails pace. Annoyed fans had to walk the last few kilometers.

The fact that the last 2 km before the stadium lead through an un-lit squatter camp made fans of both sides nervous, especially the female fans. At the stadiums the chaos continued: Organizers sent the fans the wrong parking areas and wrong seat.

Only one of the scoreboards in the stadium was working - and that only for 3 minutes. As a result the announcers had to constantly announce the score. Apparently the fans were so taken aback by the chaos that they never bothered to cause unrest.

I'm not realy interested in reading a properly translated version as I could get the gist of the story from the rough translation.

Bottom line: the reporter (if he/she was writing from first hand experience) and the affected fans should have done their homework BEFORE embarking on the trip to Rustenburg.

Contrary to many foreigners' beliefs, South Africa is not a small little country. You cannot just hop in a cab from OR Tambo to the Rustenburg stadium. Even us Saffers will do thorough planning for a trip to any game, whether it be in our home town or not!!

I can understand their frustration a little though. Remember these are people coming from 1st world countries. They are so used to just having everything they want without doing much effort. That being said, they knew they where coming to SA and should have done their homework before coming here.
 
F.... the Germans, did some work for some of these B!tches a while back, they refused to pay for the work then have the gall to tell me to forget it as they will "sabotage" the world cup in their press with whatever bull they can think off.

Why are you so harsh towards the Germans? They are not the ones who did complain ! Actually you should not be upset with the complainants at all. Rather look at the ones who made the cock up. That will be the right thing to do, wouldn't it? Look at the problem and try to fix it, not hide it ostrich style :D
