Origin and their specials are BS!

Hi all,

This is a serious RANT but I've officially caught Origin out.

Example of Origin's BS specials! #1

Okay, so yesterday, I was chatting to my colleague, he has upgraded his PC and blah blah blah - I went onto Origin and saw Battlefield 3 for R59!
Told him to get it so I could kick his ass - I even considered maybe buying it for him! I mean, R59 is nothing.

Another example of Origin's BS specials! #2

This morning I open up Origin, first thing I see is Mass Effect 2 for R14,97 - I consider buying it immediately - I won't play it, but I owned it long ago (Retail, but sold it) and wouldn't mind having it again.

So, I goto Origin.com and see they have December specials, save up to 70% !!! I get happy so I want to see what else they have.
Today - BF3 is R99 and Mass Effect 2 is R24,97.

Errr... Hello?!? Where are these DECEMBER specials exactly?

Point is, their specials are not specials, and these are not the first and probably not the last examples of EA's Origin BS I've seen.
I've seen it so many times and it irritates me to all end.

Steam however doesn't do that - or I've never seen it do that and that is exactly why as a platform for purchasing and downloading games, I rather deal with Steam than Origin.
I know that as we progress over the next couple of years, more of these platforms will popup (GOG etc) but honestly, it's gotten to a point now where I see a special on Origin and I search everywhere ELSE before I consider the purchase because chances are I'll find it cheaper elsewhere.

It's about the price changing. I also added an item to my basket but did not check out, the next day the price on the item increased.

So they're running a 12 days of Christmas-type special. The idea's to get you to buy now, and then a different one tomorrow. Then again, it is EA.
 
The problem I had with Origin is that it doesn't accept my Capitec card. I have used it on Steam and Google Play, but Origin rejects it.
 
They also randomly charged me an extra 8 bucks charge in addition to the main one. i.e. separate CC transaction.

Don't care about the 8 bucks...but wtf are you doing putting extra transactions on my card EA??? Don't even know wtf I'm paying for there?

Apparently it's to test your card. When I called Origin, they said that when you first sign a card up, they charge $1 to make sure that the card works. I got my money back after a week or so.

Have you never seen shops advertise "SPECIAL TODAY ONLY" or "SPECIAL PRICE" or anything that basically means "THIS PRICE IS CHEAPER" but in reality, it's NOT actually.
That's what pisses me off about Origin.
Their specials are never really specials, not unless you pay attention then you'll notice the actual specials.
How can they say that (example 1) BF3 is on special, when it's not... Yesterday wasn't a special day, but it was CHEAPER... today is a special day and it's MORE! Makes no bloody sense.
 
You missed out on the day that it was discounted more, I don't see why you are so angry over it.

As a side note, Steam also changes prices if you don't buy them, even after you put them in your basket. Flash sales are probably the best example since they only last for a few hours. If you don't buy in those hours, tough luck, the discount is less now.

I know about Steam, however, Steam clearly indicates a price change (since you last added it to your cart) where as if you were to add a item to your cart, not purchase it, come back and the price has changed, unless you check before you submit, it will go through with the changed price.

I don't think many of you are grasping my anger... or why I'm angry, so let's try again... It's because YESTERDAY Origin wasn't running any specials and the game was CHEAPER. Today, they ARE running (apparently) a SPECIAL and the game costs MORE! Does that make it easier to understand?

Origin doesn't exactly have the amount of games STEAM does, so it's so much easier to spot their antics.

This is normal for all online shops from Amazon to takealot. You don't check out, you lose the discount.

There's no way a game without discount would be cheaper than with discount.

Did you look at the before price?

Most likely what happened was the first time was a flash sale so big discount, and when you looked again general sale so smaller discount.
 
And if you use the same site, do a search for BF3.

On the 11th it was 5.99
On the 12th & 13th it is 9.99

So the site proves it as well and those are it's "Special" days... I mean, come on.

Ok maybe you don't understand how percentages work.

Now it's 50% off on origin. Works out to R24.95.

For it to be R14.97 would mean that it was 70% off.

So basically you're angry that you missed the 70% off sale, and only got the 50% off sale.

I guessing you conveniently "forgot", what the first sale discount was.

70% IS NOT 50%.

So really you're just pissed that you missed the bigger sale. That's your fault. Not origins. Different sales have different discounts. Deal with it.
