I simply cannot get used to the mouse acceleration in OS X, anybody got working links to utilise that make it more windows or linux like?

get a high dpi mouse? I dont notice any acceleration anomalies, i find my mouse accurate... and Im using a razer lachesis.

I've got a 1600 DPI mouse. The thing that kills me more than anything else is the deceleration, I always come up short of my intended target and then you have to creep the pointer to the target because if you move to fast you will overshoot.

This is not just me or my mouse all you have to do is google OS X Mouse Acceleration and you will see the amount of biatching and moaning about it. Also don't tell me to get used to it when I think it's a design flaw. Even if I did get used to it after using windows or linux for a short while I will be back not being used to it.

Why would I say get used to it? which mouse do you have?

I dont notice any inaccuracy on a 23" lcd, I configured my razer buttons with the mighty mouse since the razer is not supported but the acceleration feels the way I set it up on windows.

Was not directed purely at you but a lot of times the response from the Jobs worshippers are to "get used to it" which is not a solution.

Type of mouse is irrelevant as it happens with all of them Microsoft, Logitech & Prestigio.

wait a minute... you have a hackintosh dont you? well then get used to it, that's not a mac. :p

If you have a microsoft or logitech download the mac drivers and software, has better configuration options or buy steermouse, usb overdrive.

What kind of mac are you using?

Steermouse and USB Overdrive are two that I have heard of. There may be newer utilities, I'll look around.

A hackintosh in all honesty although this happens on the real deal as well, yes I have used one. Some people it does not seem to bother, others it annoys the crap out an I fall in that category. Honestly google it and see for yourself.

Thanks, some reasonable responses.

I believe you, but honestly I never noticed any difference, and i do some quite fine work with the mouse sometimes.
Hope you get it sorted.

Ahhh.... A hackintosh. That changes things (makes it easier - one of the joys of hackintoshing). Are you using a usb or ps2 mouse? I found that using any usb mouse results in the same lag that the stock apple mouse has. Apple, for some mind-boggling reason, uses some fangled fast swipe movement to move between longer distances as opposed to slower (normal) mouse movement to move between shorter distances - which is why you find seasoned mac users swiping wildly to get where you should be able get to with a simple half-wrist movement... as is the norm in any other OS. Way too unorthodox for me.

I switched to a ps2 mouse (used the ps2 kext to support it) and have no problems. The acceleration is exactly the same as in Windows and the like. (without having to install any third party preference panes or change any settings at all.)

The mouse acceleration issue is one of those things that you either don't notice, or drives you totally nuts. It happens to drive me totally nuts.

Short solution is to to use a Microsoft mouse. BUT you have to have the Microsoft driver installed, and you must then select "Intellipoint Pointer Speed" in the preferences panel. Running a MS mouse either without the driver, or with "System Mouse Tracking" enabled gives you the default OS X mouse acceleration.

Thanks, I have a usb to ps2 converter lying somewhere, will try and find it.

Thanks Sandy, at least it proves I'm not making this up and it's not related to my hardware.

I do have a MS mouse but not very fond of it, have downloaded the intellipoint software but not tried it yet.

As long as you use the ps2 port on your machine, you should be fine. The guys that wrote the ps2 port kext, specifically configured it to overcome the issue of the strange mouse acceleration that apple holds dear to = bringing it in line with normality.

EDIT: Forgot... You may have to use a ps2 keyboard as well. I may be wrong on this, it's been a while since the last install, but I think the 2 go hand in hand as input devices from the same port type. Try just the mouse at first. But, as far as I can remember, the keyboard needs to be ps2 as well. Which will mean installing the ps2 keyboard and ps2 mouse kexts. Again! I may be wrong.

Good point, PS2 actually works better than USB, you just have to install the PS2 kext.
