Apple have now entered pre-release for 10.9.3; public release to follow soon.

What will the graphics and audio update do for non-cutting edge hardware? Not much I expect.

Yip (can't make a volksie into a ferrari), overall it's probably minor bug fixes; unfortunately as usual their seed notes are very non descriptive. Basically what I provided is the meat of the seed note... Yip very helpful (NOT)

Occasionally I still get a lengthy PM, along the lines of "I hate Apple because... Apple ruined my life because... Nokia swoon..."

Nah the difference between older intel Macs and newer intel Macs is not such a difference at all.

But you can bet that it will push more people into having to dump good h/w to allow for new OS. The old OS will no longer be supported either by security fixes OR new applications will demand a newer OS.

I'm skeptical of these improvements and new "versions". I think the impetus is to drive new h/w sales. Apple makes money that way. At the end it's bad for consumers. And it's not that I am against progress of OS'es. It's that I wish for them to fix legitimate problems and not update so quickly because I'd be all for it if they maintained security on their older products which still function. But they don't have to because they're a-holes and they're only after money, which means that the situation is not progressive at all but just a faux progress for profit.

I have a perfectly well working Mac Pro 1st gen. It cannot take Mt Lion. So I should just trash it. Well screw you Apple.
 
Apple is crazy. A new OS means --- an updated internet browser or an updated calendar app. But those things should be entirely independent. News apps, don't make a new OS. A new OS means new under the hood architecture - new memory management, new CPU core switching, and so on. If most of the new OS is just a new browser and tweaks in graphics drivers, why not just release these in an update for the older OS? Well to sell h/w of course.

A new OS? It's the minor version numbers that are changing. You do know how versioning works ?
 
I also thought 10.10 is going to be the OS, 10.9.x updates

I see that now. I missed the . release in the subject. I assumed that new OSes would be called Mavericks now. NO I'm a totally n00b who does not know the advanced science of minor point releases. No need to be facetious. But my general points still stand.

( I forgot, this is MyBB where the least charitable readings are always assumed. Like you know the guy has over 4000 posts and he's done a ton of posts on technical matters, but obviously he does not know how service packs and updates work. )

I don't follow the logic of how they are pushing you to buy new hardware when they are giving the OS away for free like they did with Mavericks.

If anything I think they want to focus more on one single version of the OS thereby improving security instead of having to go back in time.

Sure... Often when changing between connections my macbook will connect to the network and get an IP address. Internet connectivity will however not work until I reboot. I'm starting to think the switch to pcie ssd exists only to reduce frustration with the many reboots required.

Often mail items will get stuck in my outbox and will only send when I restart the mail client. It irritates me that when someone embeds a table into a mail that I cannot copy and paste it into excel.

The mail issue exists on both my imac and MacBook Pro.

I don't have this issue (multiple macs); basically I never have to reboot;
Hence I think it's quite probable the problem could be specific to your network. As to the Internet not working: have you step by step analyzed where the fault resides? For example: ping router / host ip, checking if DNS is functional; nslookup or dig, tracing a route to see where the transmission is falling off, etc..
Btw I'll happily help you where I can; basically to try to isolate the underlying cause.
