Hi guys
I need to run a 25 m Ethernet cable through my garden to my outside room.
Can anyone point me in the direction of the correct product.
Needs to be waterproof and uv proof.
Can’t figure out what is the best . Cat 5/6/7 etc
Thanks

No seriously , I’m one of those lazy diy guys is there not a tough eth ?

I used this, then pulled it into a length of 20mm diameter black irrigation pipe that I bought from the local farmer's corporation. Doubling-up on protection is my thing

Seriously, I buried about 15m of this in the garden and have about 25m that is running on the top of the boundary wall. The biggest issue was to blow a thin leader string through 40m of the black irrigation pipe, without having any joints. That pipe is not very smooth on the inside.

I now have a lan point with a router and WiFi ap in the braai area that is very far from the study where my fibre terminates. Setup has survived numerous storms (touch wood)

CAT 5e and 6 will both give you a potential 1Gb link, it's just likely to be better on CAT6. CAT7 is just very expensive (and CAT6a)

If you're going to bury the wire it would be better to do it in a conduit.

You also might want to get cable with a "drain wire" and shielded RJ45 connectors (network connectors with metal around them) and then actually ground both ends.

Avoid shielded cables on outdoor installations unless it is for PoE devices exclusively.

Sorry what? I would expect you to use shielding if outside. Ignore sajunky, bad advice or it's sarcasm.

sajunky is likely referring to ground loops but the OP is in CPT so use the tough cable as its UV protected and dont worry about the earthing as thats a lengthy discussion

If you are about tough UTP cable, you are right, but better to use conduit.

If you are about shielded cable and don't worry about earthing, it is wrong.

There is no need to use shielded cables in home installations.

Yeah, you should have just left it as yogi was trying to help you out.
He's putting it outside, there will be moisture in the air, even if you put it in the piping. At that length, one would rather install it once and forget about it rather than having to swap it out after a couple of years, especially as the price difference is maybe R100 at that length. I doubt you'd even find unshielded unless you buy per meter and splice it yourself. At that length, your cable will be more prone to interference as well, but if he's burying it in piping it should be fine.
