Overclock HIS ATI 4850 IceQ

So I'm going to try overclock my 6400 2.13ghz PC. How high do you think I can take it on stock cooling? My case is well ventilated with 2*120mm and 1 *80mm fan

Well, I have an E6550 running at 3.2GHz on stock cooling so I'm guessing you should reach at least 2.8GHz :)

So I just increase the FSB incrementally while checking temps under load. Up until I get to 350 which translate to 2.8Ghz. :o
 
That's basically it, though you may have to change ram setting to match and PCI bus. But safest and easiest is just do through FSB directly and see if it takes before mucking around with other settings. If you were feeling particularly daring you could do a BSEL mod on your CPU to ramp it up to 1066fsb (I think E6600 is 800fsb or am I wrong?), if your motherboard takes it you'll be at a much higher default clock without having to change the voltage.

Actually tbh I'm having some difficulties running my 8800GTS with my E2160 CPU overclocked. It tends to freeze randomly. I have had to pull the OC right back to barely passable levels. But I think that's because my case, motherboard and CPU are just not up to the task.

I am in the process of upgrading the computer.......very, very slowly.

what psu are you running?

And only the E5xxx, E4xxx, E2xxx and pentium Ds are 800 fsb...though he can still mod it to 1333fsb :D

Have you tried upping the volts? Ur psu is good, and the E2160 is an overclocking champ.

BSEL wont help much if your board can already overclock...or u mean ur cant lock ur pci freq?

Alan, if your board supports 1333fsb..I can definitely help you clock ur cpu to 2.66ghz safe and sound ;)
 
What would be a safe voltage do you reckon? Can I push it to 1.5 or rather stick with 1.45?

What I mean is that when I get past FSB of 266 it resets itself. It may be an issue with PCI lock, I've read that the board has issues with that. So I've been running it nicely at 2.4 but it can't do anything beyond that.
 
u at 1.45 already?? Thats a bit high for 2.4ghz

Ok u definitely need some bsel modding...though the highest for the E2160 is 2.66ghz

Hey thats like Alan's cpu after bsel modding too :p

I think I got a problem. I'm running TAT and idle temp is 49, load is 61 without any OC:eek:

Well I've got it stable at 260 fsb with 1.4 volts. Anything more and I think you're right nameite, it's going to require a BSEL mod.

They known not to like bsel mods...but since it does support overclock itself, u dont need bsel.

Though the temp is a prob, it shouldnt be higher than 55 degrees on stock...

Try reseat your hsf with some nice thermal paste, maybe some more fan then overclock it!

Your crysis is definitely bottlenecked by ur cpu, see if u set the physics to low help.

See how stable you can get it with 1.45 volts...thats the highest bsel mods can take it.

Coz if its not stable past 260fsb, a bsel mod to 333 might not work...the highest volt mod I can do is 1.45v

Yeah I'm going to get myself some paste. Not exactly sure how much to put on though :o:D.

I did a few benchmarks on Crysis. All high vsync on 1680*1050. GPU = 31 FPS, CPU 1 = 30FPS CPU 2 = 15FPS :eek:
 
I can't get it stable past 260 no matter what I do. If I increase the volts it doesn't change anything. Without the graphics card it can hold at 266.
