I just read a good article

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overclocking-core-2-E7200,2072.html

on toms hardware about overclocking an E7200 and getting really good results just setting FSB speeds to 1333MHz rather than 1066MHz. Now they use quite an upmarket p45 board, has anyone tried this on an el cheapo board and can you use stock cooling at the core clock speed of 3.16GHz rather than the standard 2.53GHz?

well, if the board can support cpu's running at 1333mhz, it will most likely overclock to that point (maybe even a little further).

but at 3.16mhz, I reckon that cpu will run a little hotter, but still remain cool thanks to the 45nm process

this is exactly where the " i have to reinstall my win xp at least ones a month" and "my xp keeps giving me bsod's, i hate winxp" comes from
if it was designed for the faster speed settings it would have been in the specs

lol have one running at 3.8 but that is on a maximus formula so not a cheap board, using a Zalman cooler. Nice chip runs cooler than an E8400, only prob is less cache and lower multi.

A good cooler ain't that expensive.I don't understand y would you want to use a stock cooler:confused:

Our first recommendation goes to the Cooler Master Hyper TX2, for its simple installation. The cooler also provides very solid cooling performance at an acceptable noise level. Even when whisper-quiet, the Hyper TX2 still kept the CPU sufficiently cool. Finally, you just can't complain about the price: €17 is more than a fair deal, making this cooler a real bargain.

This cooler goes for R215 prob R240 if include delivery.

How much difference would a aftermarket cooler make on a E8500?

THanks for all the feedback ppl.
@ wcoetzee. Ive overclocked a few processors with little or no problem but usually let other ppl do it first and ask advice. The things are well over engineered and I trust Toms Hardware.
@ Pe-Killer. Why spend more cash than necessary? :)

On another note what MB would ppl recommend that's sold at Sahara or Rectron currently?

If your on a budget then i would suggest a Gigabyte P43-DS3L, that is what i have ordered. I too am going the E7200 overclocking route:D

and 4850;):)

That's more than enough. :D
