Elder processors socket AM3 will appear only during April 2009 : four core Phenom II X4 945 (3.0 GHz) Black edition. During February 2009 , the elder processor socket AM3 will be considered as the four core Phenom II X4 925 (2.8 GHz) . During April AMD will release the processors series athlon X4 6xx (Propus) and Athlon X3 4xx (Rana).

Will be awesome to buy the new am3 plus ddr3 , should be alot cheaper than intel . I think i will wait on buying an amd cpu's for now because am3 is obviously the future.

AM3 is not next month, trust me I have it on good authority from insiders at the company. Think closer to Q2 2009 and that's well, April as the above says.
DDR3 will indeed give 5~10% performance increase of DDR2. Also a reworked or improved IMC will be in the XX5 series which will optimize better for DDR3...

Lastly PII was not meant to compete against I7 but core2 series which it does well against or at least much better than original Phenom.
Price wise, 4K is a rip-off but that's here in SA and has nothing to do with the price point in other countries where they don't get ripped off. $275 should not translate into 4K but at worst R3K and that's for Black Edition.

price/performance most certainly AMD PII, then Intel core 2 and last i7 platform.
