Ok, this is what I have so far, the board being an ASUS P5K SE/EPU P35, and a Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66Ghz.

FSB 300Mhz
Multiplier 10x
FSB:Northbridge Strap 400Mhz
Memory at 16:12 at 800Mhz (next step is 900, dont know if it will work?)

I have Corsair XMS DDR2-800 2x1Gb sticks, running 5-5-5-18. Can I change these, will these sticks go to 900, and what does the 1N and 2N settings do to the ram?

This runs Prime95 and maxes at 58 degrees, Vcore bumped to 1.2 volts.

Tips?

Update:

FSB 400
Multiplier 7.5x
FSB-DRAM 1:1

Stable with Vcore at 1.2, Prime 95 is now actually only at 50 C after an hour.

Is this ok, where to next? Increase FSB to get better memory b/w? Increase Multiplier?

And safe timings with that RAM?

Could you bump the multiplyer to 8 or 9 while still keeping the FSB-DRAM ration 1:1? I did something similar with mine, but the minute you run your ram too high that's when it gets unstable (generally).

My ageing E6400 2.13GHz is running stable at 3.2GHz this way.

Not bad,pretty gentle OC sofar

Question tho,was it unstable at the default VCore for that speed?
Never bump voltages unless stability issues are ensuing :)

Bump the FSB to 420,tighten the ram timings down to 4.5 5 5 15

I will try that, but surely increasing the multiplier wont change the ram speed? That will stay at 400MhzDDR=800?

If I increase the FSB, that will increase the Ram speed, no?

I am running a very similar system to urs, except for the CPU, also running DDR2-800 2x1Gb, and a HD3870. What do u get on 3d Mark 06 with that system all default? I get 10400 before the o/c, and memory b/w of 6900mb/s on Sandra, after the o/c. Are these ok?

Yes the FSB will increase the RAM speed as the ratio is 1:1

Can't do 3DMark06 as I'm running Vista. Still waiting for Vantage to finish downloading then will test with that. And +1 PsyWulf it will up your ram speed. Try keep the ram as close to normal speed as possible.

Strange, I've tried it with 32 & 64 bit just doesn't run. The startup screen loads and that's it. Anyway I'm keen to see what Vantage is like - only thing is the free download only runs once then expires.

Not fair! Gotta upgrade soon though, this 3870 is not cutting it anymore. I was comfortable for quite a while playing everything on high, until Undercover came along and took it's kneecaps out.

My second slot is only 4x, so I dunno how improvement that would give.

They all seem to say "2 PCI Express X16 slot(x16, x4)". Somewhat misleading as it starts by 2 x 16x slots but one is only 4x. Like saying we're open everyday of the week, except saturdays & sundays!

There is a hotfix on the futuremark website to fix the splash screen hang on 3DMark 06, under the support tab for the software, its a common problem.

Thanks for hijacking my thread :D

So should i increase the fsb a bit, say to like 420, to give the ram some more stick, then increase the multiplier to get more clock?

Oh, and Undercover worx at max on my system before the o/c, 1680*1050, card set to balanced, all settings in game on max, incl AA.

Sorry man! Thanks for that, been wanting to see the score in Vista, will download it now. If I remember correctly, I got somewhere around 9000 with XP last year.

You could do it like that, and it's advisable to go up in small increments, and overclock your memory the least - if it's not designed for overclocking you won't go much higher than the stock speed without issues. Generally.

I installed undercover and it battled from the start. Set everything to medium, and was better but then looked cr@p. Might be something else.

I'll also be going to Vista next week, 64 bit, will that be a performance hit of note over XP 32 bit? Also changing to 4GB ram in Jan.

That should be a good performance raise. I'm running x86 and it's good enough for now, but will be going to x64 when SP2 is out. Also going 4GB, 2GB chokes a bit sometimes - especially when a game takes up 1.4GB.
