Overclocking the Intel E2160

My pc has an Intel Celeron D processor (3.06 GHz).

Well, there are 4 different types of Celeron D's @ 3.06Ghz. The 345, 345J, 346 and 347. The first 3 is built on the 90nm process with 256 kb cache, and the 347 is built on the 65nm process using 512kb cache.

The older CPU's can give a decent overclock (in MHZ), but it all depends on on the CPU itself. With two identical CPU's, the one might overclock more than the other.

This post might tell you more.

Mine is the 346, 90nm, 256kb cache.

I checked high and low in my bios but dont' see anywhere to change the fsb on my cpu. I've got an MSI PM8PM-V mainboard.

I do have an E2160 in my work pc also with an MSI mainboard (not sure what model) and there too I failed to find anywhere to change the fsb:o

My home pc is the 3.06GHZ Celeron (133 X 23) and the work pc is 1.80GHZ Core 2 Duo (200 x 9).

It can run on different fsb's as long as the multiplier gets it back to its rated speed (stock speed). 200fsb x 3.3 - 266fsb x 2.5 - 333fsb x 2

Okay I finally got around to overclocking
1.) My bios does not have 266 x 2.5 .. only 266 x 2.66 = DDR 707
2.) What are the Temps suppose to be like...mine is about 58c full load.
3.) When my PC starts up is doesint say Intel Core 2 Duo, Core 2 or Pentium...it says .. Genuine Intel Processor 2160

Ye dude, get a cheap but decent aftermarket cooler, and crank the FSB to 333, the Ram will only be doing 885, and it more than likely will handle it just fine..
You'll be rocking 3.0Ghz! A shame not to utilize the CPU's available power.

well just for fun I did a quick benchmark on my 7600GT

Aquamark 3

AMD 3600+ X2 = 71329
Intel 2160 @ 1.8 = 75984
Intel 2160 @ 2.4 = 98112 :D

3D Mark 2001

AMD 3600+ X2 = 21601
Intel 2160 @ 1.8 = 22529
Intel 2160 @ 2.4 = 25932 :)

Will do some more tests soon

Okay the max temp seems to be 58c altough the gigabyte fan speed control is still enabled and running the fan @ 1000RPM .. so I guess 58c at 1000RPM aint that bad... still running tests

Go and disable the fan control, so it runs at full speed all the time. 58 is ok, push it to 333 after fan control is disabled.
