Overclocking, worth it?

Eish my bad i didn't realize you had an intel board .
Perhaps there is an intel overclocker on this forum but good luck you are going to need it :D. Generally the danger only exists for people who do not know what they doing and a possible sudden power cut.

Ok, but overclocking aside now, do you think updating the bios will maybe fix inaccurete temp readings (if that is the case here)?

Something must be up, because it doesn't make sense that I get higher temps at stock frequency than other do with stock cooler but overclocked.

Yeah, I have a 12CM fan pressed in above that CPU cooler, thata blows the air directly out of the case. And the rear fan is also an exhaust. The front 12CM is the intake. And later I will put in this 8CM 4000rpm Vizo windstorm as another intake.

But I am worried about those temps, my other pc has a E8400 (dual core) running at 30C idle and 45C max load, with a stock CPU cooler. That is why my temps are worrying me.

Shouldn't that rear 12cm be an intake?

2.6 to 3GHz isn't such a big overclock, but it can give you a fair increase in framerate in certain games. Like Black Ops is one of those games where a high clocked CPU would give you a much better framerate. My framerate increased from like 40fps to 125fps when I changed my CPU freq from 1.5GHz to 3GHz.

I have a q9550 running at 3.6 and it never gets over 45. It's probably due to the thermarite ultimate extreme it sits under. Remount with good thermal compound and use a few other programs to check temps. You don't need hectic airflow in a case to do a mild oc. The old q6600's were fine with stock cooling and running at 3ghz( standard 2.4)
Wow! I think I have to reapply new/better thermal paste then on mine, because my i7 940 @ 3GHz runs at 60'C / 80'C @ 3.9GHz under load with my ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme cooler using a Push/Pull configuration in my CM 690 II Adv case.

Yeah I think I should lap this Ice blade pro cpu heatsink, has some nasty grooves in it. I will wat for the warranty of my CPU to pass and then I will lap it as well.

Although it only seems that the core 2 dues have problems with not be totally flat.
