If regulatory constraints don't stand in its way, Telkom's IP TV offering could be available in SA as early as mid-2007.
However, Molotsane used the occasion to take a thinly veiled dig at municipalities that were now encroaching on Telkom's dominance in its traditional fixed line domain. "They should stick to delivery of social services and leave the telecoms business to us."
It reminds me of the time Many, many years ago, the post office (grand daddy of Tel-Con) ran a full page ad in the Sundaytimes on why you should keep your Telex machine. This was because they were going back to the post office in truck loads because of fax machines. Times change, adapt or die - but as Bob Dylan said
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'
Really - why is there a need for USALs then muppet?"They should stick to delivery of social services and leave the telecoms business to us."
Haha - I look forward to a world were telecoms are just a basic utility like the sewage system. I think Telkom executives will feel quite at home with the sewage industry... but wait! They might restrict our toilet breaks!

Because lord knows they've been doing it so well...
Telkom's only saving grace is ICASA and DoC. If we had a free and open telecom's market, and not these govt institutions protecting their cash-cow, Telkom would die very quickly. Only in SA can we have the highest telecoms prices in the world and the ICASA chief whip turn around and say there's no evidence prices are high....!!!However, Molotsane used the occasion to take a thinly veiled dig at municipalities that were now encroaching on Telkom's dominance in its traditional fixed line domain. Speaking on the periphery of Telkom's recent AGM, Molotsane said that Telkom had so far made considerable progress in its bid to overhaul the legacy network. "As part of our strategy to stay competitive we've so far overhauled more than 50% of our network.
