Overlapping wifi channels

It may be a bit counter to oft-used mantra, but its a lesson we learnt long ago transitioning from unifi's seamless-handover to non years ago:
Use the exact same channel, but drop the strength of each AP till they are almost imperceptible to one-another,and set the min-rssi accordingly
The same frequency reduces dead-drops in the connection switching frequencies when changing AP (remember the battery drain cell c 4g used to cause? Sameish premise)

the unifi articles state to have the aps on different channels and to drop the power.Tested and works well.Obviously alot of it depends on the clients but as mentioned wifi is a dark art at the best of times.

Yes Sonoffs... battled to get them online until I set that slider to the minimum level. They don't have great WiFi chips tbh and should be replaced in a few months

Anyways... maybe I just live with this for now
Yeah mine were a bit of a pain too. I run 3 SSIDs, Home, Guest & IOT. I don't trust the IOT stuff so it's firewalled too from the rest of the network. Regarding the laptop try this:

I have a similar configuration to you, Home, Guest (offline for now) and IoT (also firewalled)

Checked laptop settings, I have an older Intel 8265 chip but the settings were similar. Let's see if that helps

The same Unifi also has for 3 years stated there is no issue with non-unifi switches causing IP association faults on Unifi AP clients - but the forums are full of it
Their primary consideration is speed and network quality by not overlapping and causing noise, not "near seamless handover" and dropped connections

I have that app. But that's a heck of a lot more schlep than simply using a different SSID. Also, more tricky for other devices (e.g. TV).
Yeah the unifi controller > * on that,or on Mikrotik you can view all your APs and their client connections from the master if configured in CAPsMan) though I can't find a screenshot of that view currently

All good and well if you have UniFi or MikroTik devices, but, as one poster asked, not much use if you're hooking up old routers as AP

Picking up a bit of an argumentative tone here not sure why

Look if you spoeg and plak things together  :

Cheap,easy,good
Pick 2

Manage expectations

Not arguing, just trying to help the poster with workable suggestions
