My sister was recently in an accident on a bridge, she was on the bridge with her indicator trying to turn right at the on ramp onto the highway. In the process a car try to overtake her on her right hand side.

* There was no traffic lights on the bridge. (like the bigger intersections)
* It was only one lane per direction. So all cars behind her needs to slow down.

I'm in the process of go back there to see the lines on the bridge ect, but till then. Do anyone know if you are allow to overtake on a single lane bridge?

Only if it is an overtake zone... Bridges usually is not
Also if your turning right on the bridge you need to move as far as possible to the right side of the lane to allow other cars to pass on your left if possible.
Were this question not in the old K53 exam?

K53 learners says something like "You may overtake on the right if the left of the other car is turning right and only if it is safe to do so and there is enough space" or something similar if I remember correctly.

It's just flippen idiots that would overtake a car turning right, on the right. The rule clearly states that the car turning right should try to keep as far right as possible, and that cars approaching from behind, should overtake on the left. Nail the idiot who tried to overtake her on the right as they are clearly in the wrong.

I had this happen to me on a few occasions, and in two of them, it was the police - going nowhere fast because they were actually on their way back to the police station.

Thanks for the responses. I have found this on the net. Over taking

A friend just went out to the accident scene, and like I thought, on the bridge is a solid white line, except for the 2m were you can get on and off the freeway.

Not only as was said was the other driver's action illegal, it will also be seen as a crash from "behind" (if I read the incident correctly), which by default puts the blame on the other driver. Your sister should lay a charge of reckless / negligent driving against the other driver.

All bridges have solid white lines, so overtaking is verboten.

Enough said

Unless someone was hurt (nothing was mentioned), why would you want to lay a charge? Seems a bit harsh?

Simply because that is exactly what his actions were. There is no excuse for overtaking someone on the right when they have indicated to turn right, even more so in this case. Fortunately this time no-one was injured or killed, the next time he does it the innocent party might not be so lucky. It is no small thing to assault someone else with a 2,5 ton weapon. SA drivers need to learn that there are consequences to their actions other than "my insurance will cover it".

Just like the drunk driver that drove into my friends garden wall, and they just let him go since gave them a sob story on how he would be in trouble if he was caught driving drunk again... what if he kills somebody the next time he does it (speeding and drinking)?

We should really bring back the death sentence for stupidity. Or castrate them. Such people shouldn't be in the gene pool. Everybody makes mistakes, but an inability to think thorough a basic situation logically shouldn't be tolerated on roads.

I doubt that. Overtaking a car turning right never makes sense.

On a two lane bridge it would definitely mean no overtaking, but what's not making sense is a person passing on the side the other person is turning to. Nail him I say.

Meant to say "ÿou may overtake on the left if the other car is turning right and theres enough room".

Its irrelevant anyways because I misread the OP. Thought the guy overtook on the left
