OVHD decoder end of life (E04)

i'm at this point now. well, my parents are.
so i'm looking at buying them a new one. But the current latest model OV512, is now 2 years old. who says it won't stop working within a year.
at least I'm able to help my parents, but what about those elderly that does not have this help. with the pathetic SASSA grants, they can barely make it thru the month, so R800 is out of their reach.

my parents don't need Wifi, recording, usb etc, etc. they just want to watch their Turkish soapies and news channels. surely to make sure that basic functionality still works on older decoders is not that difficult ?? Or maybe i don't understand the complexities of decoder software dev.

As mentioned before by others, it just smells of money grab when you need cash injection for a product that been advertised "free forever".
Not to mention our landfills piling up with old decoders
