When my generator kicks in I'll tell you
I have 3 vodacom voice contracts and one I am talking about in this post I use only as a data simand only as a backup.(the other two are talk 500's) However things have changed in the last 60 days since I now dropped my ADSL and now need some advice on what to do...
This backup contract is expired and it is a talk 130 or something with 500meg added so total monthly cost was R500 plus minus. The card only ever saw the inside of a modem for the past 3 years. I own the modem and last months bill was in excess of R1000 as I pay the per meg rate over 500meg. Previous average usage was about 500meg.
My usage is average between 1-2 gig now.
So I go to Autopage, my ISP and say there's no way I'm renewing this contract. I don't need another phone. I don't need any modem. But I need the debit order sim in my modem so i can buy 1-2 gigs as needed but without being locked into a contract.
Their response is that I should buy Mygig 2 which costs R429 per month and they'll throw in another e272 with free sim and connect.
Not what I'm looking for but since I'll be travelling a bit and the GF needs bandwidth (as I'm not reconnecting ADSL) maybe I should take the new contract and use the 2gig sim in my own modem and give the free e272 modem to the GF.
But she uses probably between 500meg- 1 gig per month and I pay for that. How should I solve this problem - buy a pay as you go and load it with 1 gig for the GF or take another contract giving her a Novatel express data card for R349 all in? Or is there a cheaper solution??
I'm in a good reception area but don't want to get locked into 2 more contracts:(

Save yourself more trouble and use two prepaid sims for data. The contract data packages if not controlled properly on your part get lead to excessive bills due to OOB data charges.

On the prepaid sims load exact amounts to purchase data bundles so no money is wasted on OOB charges.

Using prepaid data's probably the way to go, otherwise you could also get a 4U contract for R0/month and load e.g. a 2GB bundle @ R389 on there, then link 2 sims to that account, one for you and one for your GF.

Great idea, but isn't 4U prepaid only. The sales exec didn't mention that particular option when I said I wanted a contract at R0 per month but loaded with a 2GB data bundle:confused: which they could debit from my account as they do with my other 2 existing voice contracts.
maybe it has something to do with not being allowed to migrate voice to data:confused:

Then now I look at it I'll still need to get the GF a modem -maybe better to buy a used one on gumtree or bidorbuy:confused:

The 4U contract is not prepaid. They debit you every month.
