Package mismatch between Vumatel and ISP

Hi MyBroadband

After waiting what seems like and eternity for fibre to be installed right in the middle of Sandton, I am finally covered by Firbrehoods, now Vumatel. I placed an order at Vumatel for 50/50 and after 2 weeks heard nothing, so I eventually contacted the installer myself and got the line installed and set up.

I decided to go with RocketNet as my ISP, from what I had read they are very good. This is true, from my experience so far they have been nothing but fantastic and their support is super efficient.

So yesterday after having the ONT set up I installed my router and voila...connected to glorious fibre, but there is a hitch. As one does when they connect any WiFi network first thing to do is a speed test. 50 Mbps down, but only 5 up. So i test using another server, same thing. Seems odd, so I contact RocketNet who assure me that I'm on a 50/50 package on their side. They suggest I logging into the Vumatel portal and check what package I'm signed up on. Yep, you guessed it 50/5, so the Vumatel representative signed me up for 50/5 after confirming with her I want a 50/50 service.

Tried contacting Vumatel support, who I honestly believe is dumber than Telkom (didn't think this possible), they claim I'm on the Fibrehoods network and cant help.

Phone them again, now waiting for tier 2 support, nothing. They have no idea whats going on. They acknowledge its on 50/5 but seem to have no idea on how to change it. This is the third time calling them with no help. Logged a fault with ISP who on my behalf logged one with Vumatel. Still nothing

From my understanding, this open access network model is supposed to encourage competition and make it easy for the consumer to switch providers and packages, If they can't adjust the speed over the phone, how are you supposed to alter your package etc.

Anyway, rant over. Anyone else had this issue or know how to resolve this?

Why are you even dealing with vumatel? Your isp should deal with them.

This all goes through the existing fibrehoods system and a company called automation exchange. What happens is when you request the upgrade via the portal your ISP gets a notice. From there your ISP accepts. AE gets the notice and is supposed to make the changes then set to do. Since the purchase this process hasn't really been happening, there are even more challenges around the installations and same process is supposed to be managed around the portal.

Your ISP should be escalating and getting it sorted.

Thanks for the help. At this rate you might be getting a new customer. :). Ill get them to help sort this out.

Just a quick update. Someone seems to have gotten their sh*t together and have resolved the issue. I got notifications from Fibrehoods on both my email and phone that my package was canceled and minutes later a new package with the correct speed activated. Seems to be working fine now. Looks like RocketNet dealt with them and got it sorted.

Your price mismatch of CI on Vuma compared to CI on Openserve is costing you a customer, nearly a 50% difference R1100 compared to R1500

Unfortunately we don't dictate the IPC and line fees, if we could offer it at the same rate we would.

I understand the don't dictate, but 50%, that not just a little bit. OS+CW R500 cheaper/month that a similar package OS+CI.

Now going to see how long I need to wait for Vuma+CI.

That's an openserve issue. The IPC cost. All ISP's cost more on Openserve than on other open access fibre providers.

You need to complain to Telkom about their IPC charge, not the ISP.

CISP kills CW. That's why there's such a large price difference.

I'm saying CW + OS is R400/pm less than CI + OS. for a roughly similar package.

It's implies the OS cost to CW is ALLOT less than to CI.

Never mind the get more for allot less that Vuma+CI is saying will be available once Vuma becomes available for me.

Oh, you are comparing ISP's packages on the same fibre provider? Then that simply illustrates the benefit of an open access network. You as the end user benefits from better pricing?

As to the bit in bold, I highly doubt it.

CISP might kill CW.

But:
OS+CISP R1499 for a 20/40 package - uncapped
OS+CW R1000 for a 20/40 package - Capped 250Gb/month, but that cap is only counted 18:00-0:00

That not only kills each other, that also kills the being considered

CISP kills CW. That's why there's such a large price difference.

If the service is good, and the price is good then stay with CW. If CW is noticeably worse, ask yourself why.

You get what you pay for.

Agree

And I'm willing to pay more, but R500/month, thats not something I can justify to the budget, I would like to go CISP, but with that package build I can't, I'm going to have to wait for a CISP+Vuma, which will give me CISP in a 100/10 package. at R1100/month. so I get CISP, I get 100Mbps and only at R100/month more. The drop for up speed from a 20Mbps bought, achieving 10Mbps to the then 10Mbps sold by CISP is a no brainer.
