Hi MyBroadband
After waiting what seems like and eternity for fibre to be installed right in the middle of Sandton, I am finally covered by Firbrehoods, now Vumatel. I placed an order at Vumatel for 50/50 and after 2 weeks heard nothing, so I eventually contacted the installer myself and got the line installed and set up.
I decided to go with RocketNet as my ISP, from what I had read they are very good. This is true, from my experience so far they have been nothing but fantastic and their support is super efficient.
So yesterday after having the ONT set up I installed my router and voila...connected to glorious fibre, but there is a hitch. As one does when they connect any WiFi network first thing to do is a speed test. 50 Mbps down, but only 5 up. So i test using another server, same thing. Seems odd, so I contact RocketNet who assure me that I'm on a 50/50 package on their side. They suggest I logging into the Vumatel portal and check what package I'm signed up on. Yep, you guessed it 50/5, so the Vumatel representative signed me up for 50/5 after confirming with her I want a 50/50 service.
Tried contacting Vumatel support, who I honestly believe is dumber than Telkom (didn't think this possible), they claim I'm on the Fibrehoods network and cant help.
Phone them again, now waiting for tier 2 support, nothing. They have no idea whats going on. They acknowledge its on 50/5 but seem to have no idea on how to change it. This is the third time calling them with no help. Logged a fault with ISP who on my behalf logged one with Vumatel. Still nothing
From my understanding, this open access network model is supposed to encourage competition and make it easy for the consumer to switch providers and packages, If they can't adjust the speed over the phone, how are you supposed to alter your package etc.
Anyway, rant over. Anyone else had this issue or know how to resolve this?
