It worked earlier today.

Doesn't work now.

Anybody with magic potions?

This is been going on since Thursday in Hatfield Pretoria.

It seems to affect different Sims.

On Thursday my prepaid account worked while my contract didn't.

Since Friday my contract didn't connect once.

Please help.

If you don't mind me asking , which part of Hatfield ?

My prepaid Vodacom HSDPA has been hunky-dory :)

It works like a bad indicator on a old car.

It will hook up and then last for 30 sec and drop.

15 attempts later I had no luck.

Am I wrong to assume that some thing is wrong with the system.

Please. I am not accusing anybody. I need this connection and obviously help.

Vodacom Data: Prepaid works, Contract doesn't.

I need help.

Vodacom's walkin says they are having problems. Since last Thursday.

I requested help yesterday but the thread was moved to the problem of Fridays.

Is this still the Friday problem or something else?

I want my data on my contract sim to work. At the moment a can not connect with it at all. Yesterday it worked on and off. Last night I could not connect at all.

Just to confirm I used a prepaid sim on the same phone. It connected without fail.

Please help

Yes, we give pre-paid preference over contract...;)

Getafix, please PM me the contract number + all your contact details.

Did 155 look at the problem? What did they say?

I'm about 2 blocks away from Tuks.

No problems this side - perhaps different base stations (hope that makes sense :))

IMO the phone's settings need to be checked & rechecked, maybe it's currently set to use HCSD or something instead of GPRS|HSDPA.

Seems Getafix and I are about 2 km apart.

I'm using the U740 to connect.

IMO it is significant that a prepaid sim works fine. I think it IS the 'Friday problem' as you call it.

I regularly get similar symptoms. And my contract SIM is also one that is affected by the Friday aka HLR problem.

My guess is that all of the HLR boxes are overloaded to some degree. One of them, the most overloaded, falls over completely sometimes.

Right now, on 3G, in a phone, my contract SIM shows no signal 50% of the time, full signal 50% of the time. My pre-paid SIM, (on a different HLR box, I bet you) shows no signal only 20% of the time.

It's like a horror movie. Friday is starting to happen every day...

Pretty sure it's not a network problem. Rather something with the SIM or possibly handset. We're busy checking.

Thanks Vodacom3g.

You guys got it working on gprs.

Thanks once again for all your assistance. Please pass on my thanks to your colleagues. Your effort is truly appreciated.

No probs.

It seems that you were being affected by the combination of two scenarios.

- Handset dropping back to 2G, either caused by a lack of consistent 3G signal or something else. The local radio guys are investigating.

- Pre-paid (including hybrids like Top-Up) dropping a data connection when switching between 3G and 2G. A fix for this is due to roll out next week.

In the mean-time, if you can force the handset to either 3G or 2G, it should help a lot.

@sun, this might apply to you as well.

For the sake of clarity, does the pre-paid bearer network switching issue have anything whatsoever to do with HLR? - I imagine it could indirectly if switching requires an HLR update.

Don't think so, but let me check.

You do realise that whatever I post will not be the truth?

The whole problem not being able to get 3G was solved by swapping a faulty sim card.

Vodacom 3g thanks for your help as well as your colleagues.:)
