Packet loss, no connection, but stays sync'ed

Hey guys, I'm having a weird issue at the moment. Over time my connection degrades to the point of being completely disconnected from the ISP account (both WA and Afrihost), but apparently stays sync'ed and neither router I'm using (old Billion, new D-Link) will try to reconnect without restarting. It looks like an authentication issue (sync at normal line speed, attenuation and SNR look fine) but restarting the router fixes it instantly. Then over the course of minutes to an hour it steadily gets to a massive amount of packet loss then just stays unusable until a manual restart (again, sync does not drop at all). Any ideas? There was a fault which was apparently fixed but I've posted a new fault in the mean time.

SNR is fine, but your attenuation seems a little on the high side i think. Can you disable wifi, and plug Ethernet into laptop, and then see what your line stats look like?

Normally if your SNR is below 6db, you will get no sync, so this is a bit strange..

What happens if you ping bras.afrihost.com

Is it normal to only get two hops on a tracert to bras.afrihost.com through a web africa account?
Pinging 50 times, request timed out 12 times. Restarted router, all pings went through, 7-9ms

Edit: 3rd hop on other tracert's seems to be the most inconsistent

Doubt it, that you can only get 2 hops to bras.

Something seems to be happening on your line. I think maybe some of the other guys will be able to assist more.

I would suggest logging this as a fault with Telkom, so that a technician can have a look

Does sound like an exchange issue, ask them to move you to a different port or start by asking them to reset/recreate the port.

This happened to me when I switched from adsl to vdsl few years ago I had to ask them to do a port reset whatever that means.

It worked.

Yeh, either a port reset, or they can try finding him another port as Soul Assassin says

Telkom finally called back and said they'll dispatch a technician to the exchange. Hopefully things are working properly soon

Well that was fun. Apparently it's definitely not a Telkom issue and must be every ISP except Telkom
