Throughout our town there has been a major problem with packet loss causing the Internet to run like an absolute dog for the last 4-5 days or so. Telkom continues to tell us there is no general problem and took days to escalate the issue, still grumbling that the callout would be chargeable if it turns out to be our problem. We have checked with several other techies around different areas of town and they all report the same problem in the same time frame so it seems unlikely that the problem is just us. Telkom didn't pay much attention when we reported this right at the beginning.
My husband had a chance conversation with a guy who knows a Telkom engineer, who says the problem is due to Vodacom having gone down last week and having secured services from Telkom in their hour of need.
Does anyone know if there is a grain of truth in this story? Or if other rural areas are experiencing similar problems since the big Vodacom outage? We're getting nowhere talking to Telkom.
