If he was genuine about his faith he should have applied his mind to this verse and had the offending appendage removed.

See, I've never quite understood this argument. As a heterosexual male, I have a "compulsion" to have sex with women, but I don't go out raping people. What you are attracted to sexually doesn't make you act on that impulse. This is a criminal act like any other. It's the same as stalking and murdering some celebrity you're obsessed with. There are plenty of obsessed fans who do neither of these things, but this line of arguing is like saying that if they do it's because they have a compulsion to do so. Most responsible adults would seek help if they started having violent thoughts or strange sexual urges, most don't act on it. This person isn't merely a pedophile, but a criminal and irresponsible human being as well.

Example:
I know a few people that considered killing themselves but wouldn't seek psychiatric help. I know people with terrible relationship problems but refuse to even consider seeing a marriage counsellor.

Also, there is a massive difference between plain sex and rape. Its not just about consent, its a different sex act altogether.

Besides, you say you have a compulsion to have sex with women, do you believe you will do so again given the opportunity? If this guy has a compulsion to fondle boys, when an opportunity arises he will act on that compulsion.

I don't believe this is about being responsible. I believe the vast majority of criminals across the criminal spectrum cannot be rehabilitated via behavioural re-training. They are wired differently. They are faulty. I don't believe all us want to cut up our neighbours and eat their body parts and that 99% of us simply don't do so because we are able to control ourselves. 99% of us simply do not have any desire to do this so we have no need to control this as the desire only exists in the faulty mind surely?

I'm sorry but Paedophilia has absolutely nothing to do with sexuality. It is a very destructive psychosis similar to psychopathy. However you are correct, in my book, in saying that Paedophiles cannot be rehabilitated. A short drop and a sudden stop was the way that they used to deal with these miscreants. Unfortunately the humane state of the criminal is held in higher regard then the victim these days.

Yes but you don't have a compulsive disorder. It is a psychological disorder, like serial murder. In fact most compulsive disorders are characterised by the person having very structured and ordered lives. Not irresponsible, just a whack job. But yeah, he is a criminal and should be dealt with in a way more fitting then our current system provides.
