A few years ago someone pointed out to me that painkillers are very good for aiding your concentration and I've found that it really does work. During exam times I sometimes take Grandpa powders when I'm struggling to concentrate on studying. Not daily, mind you, just on the odd occasion here and there when I'm really not in a studying mood and want to get my mind in order. I do it maybe two or three times during an exam period.

Is taking painkillers when not necessary dangerous in any way and is there something else that can give me the same effect that is actually designed for this purpose? The Grandpa powders really do help to clear my mind and aid my focus, but I'm a bit worried about side effects. The scary part is I originally bought Grandpa powders because they're absolutely disgusting and I knew I wouldn't get addicted to them, but recently I've started getting used to the taste and don't mind it at all anymore. :o

I pop a few sinutab with codiene when i need to concentrate, it works wonders.

Yes. Vitamin B.

You can use it daily, forever and it has a lasting effect. It helps your nervous system and thereby your mood, temperament and therefore your concentration, focus and recall.

I use it due to the meds I am on and I know without it I would be stuffed. Much better than pain killers by a long shot too.

Get something strong, like a B-complex mix and use it in the morning and it will last you the whole day.

Mmmm dont think I have ever noticed this effect.

Zewp ... just please remember that Grandpa is very high in Paracetamol ... and Paracetamol can cause liver damage if taken excessively. I think Paracetamol is actually the OTC drug most people over dose on. Please be careful. Dont take more than 1000mg a day (though I read somewhere they are considering lowering even that maximum dosage a day recommendation)

My doctor claims that Grandpas can cause stomach ulcers when used in excess.

Not gonna argue against a doctor .... but paracetamol (which is what grandpa basically is) is not bad on they tummy. Asprin is bad for the tummy. If you have ulcer they will likely recommend you use paracetamol instead of Asprin.

Tacet's doctor is 100% correct.

It destroys the stomach lining.

Well .... if you are taking enough to hurt your tummy then you will likely have liver damage anyways ..... and that is how Paracetamol kills you .... via liver damage ... nice and slow. That is why people must be careful of it.

Well, that's that then. I'm flushing the Grandpas down the toilet now. :/

Thanks for the VitB suggestion. I'll definitely look into it.

As they say everything in moderation.

Grandpas contain more aspirin than paracetamol… ;)

Oh ok....I must be thinking of Panado then. Panado is pure paracetamol I think. It is the Asprin in the Grandpa then that is bad for the tummy ... not the paracetamol. Will try and find the article later where I read this.

FWIW the grandpa powders contain 453,6 mg of Aspirin vs 324,0 mg of Paracetamol with a 64,8 mg Caffeine chaser.

Well, if you really want to concentrate try some Ritalin. Works the opposite way if you don't have ADHD... or so I've heard.
