Paint for a white picket fence?

Hi everyone!

So... I've got a task of epic proportions ahead. I bought plain (unpainted) pine picket fencing, which I want to install myself.

I want to paint it white (of course ).

Problem is, what type of paint do you use? Do you treat it with something before you paint it?

Any advice will be appreciated! I looked online and I'm a bit confused by all the different types of paint available

Plascon wall 'n' all. Can't beat it. No undercoat, just slap it on. Mine's lasting 10 plus years now, 2 coats back in 2003, still looking good.

Best advice would be had from the place where you mean to buy the paint.

Technology changes all the time and the people who sell it to you will know better than anyone.

As for preparation you shouldn't require any primer, just a bit of sanding down to rough it up and then a decent outdoor wood paint maybe one that has some anti-fungal qualities.

First give it a coat of universal primer. Let it dry for 48 hrs in this cold weather. Then paint it with a high quality acrylic PVA paint or decent oil based enamel paint.

Just to be clear, you painted a fence with the wall and all, right? Not your walls?
