Hope for some expert painters to advise. A painter painted Dulux Undercoat over a lounge wall that had a water based paint over it as considered surface not very raw so no primer used only undercoat. Thereafter painted Dulux luxurious silk yellow (true joy color) over it. This is where the problem is the painter though experienced inexplicably caused numerous lapping to occur on all 4 walls thus leaving some places darker or lighter than others and paint roller lines can be seen as never use a wet tip. See pics. How do I fix this?

Do I put a Dulux Primer or Undercoat (white color ) over the Luxurious silk(true joy yellow color) and than paint it again to get rid of lapping etc and ensure a smooth finish? Or do I need to plaster walls again then apply primer then undercoat then paint? I tried to paint a second coat but the color turned more mustard like and not what is required. Need the true joy yellow color to show and one shade all round. Thanks.

1. Shoot the "painter"! He did not allow for sufficient drying time before applying top coat. Then botched that too.
2. Ambient light of the room will affect the visual appearance of any paint colour;
3. Repaint with Dulux White (two coats), leave at least 24hrs drying time, and apply a lighter shade of required colour. Perhaps even two shades lighter.

Thanks,
1.Wish I could feel like strangling that bloke.
2.Yes, noted.
3. I do have dulux white paint (not primer or undercoat) for walls so can do that.Just to clarify by Dulux White you mean the Paint right? Not primer or undercoat which is generally white in color. Lighter shade going to be tough as got another can of True Joy and it is generally light already with first coat. Not sure if can dilute luxurious silk paint further.

Undercoat paint is usually thinner than top coat paint. Two coats of Dulux White paint should be sufficient to cover the botched job, although I would go as far as 3 coats, depending on whether there is any shine-through.

BTW, I am no paint expert. Just a normal home-owner that wants a job done properly, so I DIY most things.

Thanks, going to try that myself.

Noted, 100% with you.

Ok looking at this now,

1. Was the previous paint in a good condition? Was there any underlying issues not treated fixed? i.e Dampness?
2. Was the paint tinted or standard colour? I.e. did they give you an uniform colour mix?
3. Used blue painter masking tape, that cornice is going need some work to get it pristine white.
