Just had the best email I've seen in ages....

Had a minor accident last week and damaged the right front fender and bumper on my C200K (worth about R170k)....

Panel Beaters just sent through a quote of R90k to fix it....

I couldn't stop laughing, that quote is based on some special kind of crack... there is no way the damage on my car is R90k

Lol, nice.

I'll mention this to my friend who was complaining about the R40k bill to fix his C220K which had broken headlights, no rear bumper, dents everywhere, a bent bonnet, and several mechanical issues which rendered it inoperable. :p

ETA: W00t! 1000 posts!

There was a post somewhere on a guy who had to replace his Nissan Nivarra's back bumper - think it was about R40,000

Nissan parts are very expensive so i can believe that.

Merc parts aren't cheap either.

have seen a merc rear brake light cost R7000.

i wouldn't lol if I were you, i'd start to panic. had a bump a few years ago on a corsa - R12 000 for a couple of scratches and a dent.

I'm waiting for the Assessor to phone me.. and I'm going to query the quote... its just beyond excessive if you ask me...

Yea best idea is to speak to the assessor before you make any decisions. It is a bit pricey but it's not going to be cheap, no matter where you take it.

My point of talking to the assessor is more to find out if he thinks that quote is even vaguely sane..... because I don't think so.

Then you should perhaps get your own assessor to go out and evaluate the car as most of the time the assessors are on kickbacks and will say whatever the panelbeater wants them to :)

I just got quoted about R7k to replace my front bumper, front right headlamp and repair front right fender on the Panda (after an ass clown from the Post Office jumped a light and hit me) from Renew It. Seems Fiat parts are cheap :D

The parts aren't exactly EXPENSIVE.... R4k for a right front fender.

They're just pretty much trying to replace the entire front end of the vehicle it seems, and i figure its TOTALLY unnecessary...

one can draw a close relationship between the health care costs and motor car repair costs ... its criminal ... there is no way in hell these people are making 10% profit, not even 100% profit ... more like 500% profit ...

guess they see screwing the insurance company not a biggie!

Ok.. make it R60k instead... after I told the assessor those okes were smoking crack...
