Panel beaters taking car for a joyride

Hey guys,

What can one do in situations like this? A taxi drove into my dad's car and he subsequently had to take the car to the panel beaters. While at the panel beaters someone took the car for a joyride. He complained but had no documented evidence.

Fast forward two years. I took my car to the panelbeaters to have a ding on one of my doors and bumper fixed up. I took a picture of the date, time and mileage when I booked my car in at the panelbeaters. This was Tuesday. It is now Friday and I still don't have my car. I am getting a little paranoid. What can I do if I find out that they took my car for a joyride (or Thursday evening drag racing session) :confused:

Obviously I am just forward planning here. Advice?
 
What cars were they? You sure they didn't take them to a wheel place or something?
 
My car's car was a Jaguar X-Type. The taxi just dented his car a little, it was a low speed impact.

I am just wondering what one should do if you discover that your car has been driven without your permission. I don't know if they did take *my* car for a joyride, I am just paranoid and forward planning a little.
 
Forget the paranoia, it'll kill you! :(

You've taken a photo of the odo, and that's good enough to be able to show them and ask them if it has gone up. Don't forget that these cars have to be tested, which will involve a small amount of driving - but not worth getting an ulcer over.

Hehe, I will do my best. :D Hopefully the ODO is the same as when I dropped it off. They only had to repair 2 scratches.

If you have Tracker or similar, then your problems are solved :) I rmbr getting numerous SMS'es the one night from Bandit, when one of the company vehicles was supposed to be locked away, but was instead doing high speed runs through the townships :)
 
A mate of mine had his 350Z serviced in Durban, the one grease monkey took it for a joyride afterwards and hit a speedbump too fast, ended up on the pavement and stuffed things up badly.
The sad thing is it took alot to get the dealer to actually fix it after that.
 
I know someone whos Ferrari was in for a service. He got a sms from the tracking company that they have detected that the vehicle was in a accident... dealer tried to delay him seeing the vehicle... got a new Ferrari.
 
Wow, that is hectic. Great for the customer.

I just got my car back and everything is well.

/me dances happily.

As in he bought a new Ferrari? Or the dealership gave him a new one?
 
I guess it's always a good idea to take a photo of your odometer. If you do have issues with panelbeater or service center I'm sure you can go to the RMI. I've been hearing ads on radio about the CPA, RMI and members of the RMI. If they Fark you around they stand to lose their accreditation...or so I think.
 
They have to test drive the car to check for rattles after they finished their work not? :)
