I need to take my Hyundai, still under warranty, for panelbeating. Need some opinions on which is the best places in Durban to send it to?

i have used ross champion on two occasions for a bmw on one occasion (i think they may also be bmw approved), and a range rover on the other.
the bmw also had a full respray after repairs.

the quality of work was exceptional.

Took my Hyundai to Durban Panel beaters ... and heres my advice .. DONT USE THEM!!

Car had to go back 3 times, and I believe they used it as a delivery vehicle while it was with them, not to mention the critical impact IN THEIR SHOP, and the fact that they damaged the roof when it was in for the back door ....

assuming the car is insured... why not call the insurance company see who they refer you to, and them take it from there....

2 shops that do fantastic work however are:

Palace Panel and Paint in Mount Edgcombe &
Classic Coach works in Umhlanga

Agree, took my Audi there for a dent on the back wheel arch to these so called Audi Approved Panelbeaters. Result was crap, and the guy who shuttled me back to work told me that they don't really use the specialized equipment to repair cars, it's just kept there to show Audi, BMW etc when they come to audit.

Panelrite in Pinetown are superb. Their finishes are perfect. Been there a few times as my buddies get their cars polished there. Quite often seen Ferraris and Lambos in for touch ups

Classic coach works are good, but they charge at least 3-5 times as much as most places.

From experience...

Classic Panelbeaters in Pinetown are pretty decent...
Ross Champion in Pinetown on the other hand, it seemed as if they tried to pull a fast one on my GF's insurance, so maybe just be wary of their admin and business side, but I think the quality of the workmanship is pretty decent.

The reason I ask for advice is because I've had bad experiences in the past with Durban Central Panelbeaters and Finesse. Durban Central had blended the paint on my first car but it started flaking after some time and the head light and indicator clips broke when closing the bonnet. Finesse customer service was really bad. They had failed to notify me about their delays and plans of action. I was so miffed I wrote to the MD.

The car is insured. I've got a list of the panelbeaters approved by my insurance. The closest to me are Ross Champion Pinetown (I see there's also one on Point Road) but it doesn't say whether its Hyundai approved or not and Panelrite. Is Panelrite's work really that superb?

Sent the car to Panelrite. I said I'll wait a few months till I post and see if the workmanship holds. So far I can't tell that the car has been in accident.

Metallic paint blending has been done to perfection. Besides one or two minor things which you'll really really have to scrutinize to see their work is excellent. The best I've seen really. I'm very very impressed.

Good day,

With regards to claim number and your designated panel beater Ross Champion.

Please be advised that I collected my vehicle from Ross Champion today at 09h24. I would like to advise you of events that transpired at Ross Champion this morning which I am entirely disgusted with.

I did inspect the vehicle upon collection but was still not satisfied with the quality of the repairs undertaken. There are still major issues (refer to the email I sent yesterday) that have not been rectified. Thereafter I went in to pay my excess at the reception of Ross Champion.

After payment the receptionist gave us a document which stated that I am satisfied with the work that was carried out on my vehicle. Naturally I refused to sign this open-ended document which seemed to rile Nizam the manager up. He insisted that I sign his document and I if did not sign he “would not release the vehicle and that the vehicle is in his possession and he owns it”. To which I responded that it is my vehicle, he has no claim to it and he cannot force me into signing documents that I am not comfortable with. He went into a rage grinding his teeth and stormed out of the offices. Half a minute later he returned to angrily pace the reception and trying to intimidate my wife and myself into signing his document. His behaviour and attitude towards my wife and myself was atrocious and this was in the presence of his office staff. How can Discovery Insure send me to a person that is hot tempered with no customer service skills? I wonder if he treats all his customers this way. That is truly unbecoming of an employee of Ross champion let alone a manager. If anything I should have been irate party as that was my third attempt to collect my vehicle which left me totally inconvenienced but I kept myself in check.

In stark comparison his colleague Sherina Vinden approached us to calm the situation down. She amended the document and struck off the satisfaction clause and co-sign to which I signed and collected me vehicle.

After collection of my vehicle I went to SMG panel beater to get a second opinion about my vehicle. SMG panel beaters have advised that they will send Discovery a quotation for the rectification of the sub-standard workmanship.

Yes, top notch work. I would have went straight to the MD and make him sort out the mess.
