Cape Town - A paramedic is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Monday for hijacking an ambulance outside a fire station in the area and robbing a fellow paramedic who was in it.

Another suspect is yet to be arrested.

Metro EMS spokesman Robert Daniels said he was aware of the incident and it was under investigation.

But he was not able to say whether the arrested paramedic, 31, who handed himself over to police on Saturday, or the one who was robbed, worked for Metro EMS.

Paramedics accused of hijacking ambulance get bail

Cape Town - Two paramedics accused of robbing their colleagues and hijacking an ambulance were released on bail by the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Lulama Patrick Khondlo and Sithembile Eric Fuma were granted R500 bail each and had to report to their local police station every Monday and Friday, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said.

The duo, based in Mitchell’s Plain, face charges of aggravated robbery.

They allegedly robbed two of their colleagues who were attending to a patient at the Khayelitsha fire station on Friday night.

While the paramedics were busy, a red Opel Astra drove onto the scene.

According to the paramedics, the two accused got out, threatened them with knives and demanded their cellphones.

“There was resistance and a fight ensued. One of the two accused then jumped into the ambulance, still with the patient inside and another paramedic who was attending to the patient, and drove off.”

The second suspect got into Opel and followed the ambulance. The first man stopped the ambulance after about 200m and fled the scene in the Opel.

A woman who had been in the Opel was also arrested, but was released without being charged.

The case was postponed to August 19.

It's designed to confuse and bewilder, to leave you guessing. Much like every word that comes out of the ANC.
