Paramount intensifies fight over Warner Bros

Paramount Skydance ratcheted up the stakes in the months-long battle for Warner Bros. Discovery, saying it plans to nominate directors to the board to thwart a merger with Netflix.

The company, run by David Ellison, also said it filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. in an attempt to force out into the open more details about Netflix’s $82.7-billion takeover agreement, escalating an acrimonious bidding war between the media company and the streaming giant that has captivated Hollywood and Wall Street.

I hope Paramount wins so we get Warner content on Showmax. This could drag on for years though so bad news for those of us who only want to stream the classic Bogart movies legally. Obviously less official means are the only way.

You have more chance of getting more Warner content on Netflix if they win than Paramount letting more onto Showmax.

I hope Netflix wins so DSTV dies faster

it's laughable that anyone thinks nominating board members can stop a merger, Netflix or anyone else for that matter can simply bid directly to shareholders aka a hostile takeover, if the shareholders vote to sell the board has no say in the matter

How do you get your Bogart fix? I literally have a folder on my hard drive named BOGART.

DSTV will never die even if they continue with nothing but African content only. Canal Plus didn't pay all that money just to throw it away.

without subscribers it dies, with African content only it won't have enough subscribers to keep going

Canal+ would have wasted all that money unless they are able to provide a product that can attract subscribers

Where is Brian/Brain? He is normally the first at the scene wrt threads of this nature

Enough's been discussed to last for years. The guys who never listen.. it doesn't matter

(Translation - tired of this :p)

You forgot you were in Africa? Who do you think is the majority of the 14 million subscriptions?

honestly I'd be VERY surprised if they can carry DSTV without the suckers who pay for premium just for the sport

then again I'm contradicting myself a bit as I don't actually believe the Netflix / Paramount thing costing DSTV some channels alone can ever sink it, it is all about Supersport

I'll cheer any knock to DSTV on the way down though

I doubt Canal+ has any feelings of loyalty to us, but they're successful, and they've got a new business to run... and most of it is based right here in SA.

1+1 usually equals 2, sometimes 3

But I'm sure there will be many disappointments and shortcuts too

Simple as that really 🤷‍♂️
