Paramount to Drop Blu-Ray for HD-DVD

We all know blu-ray is a superior format to HD-DVD, so why support the crappy one again? I really don't understand it.

The first reason I'm assuming is a lower profit margin due to the cost of the discs.

The second reason I'm almost sure of is Sony's restrictive policies. Rootkit software didn't do them any favours either.

well... I read somewhere that the paramount studios is only going to support hd-dvd for 18-months... which maybe long enough to change the out comes... but remember that the hd wars are going to take a long time to really kick in... and next year after the ps3 price drop, there will be more people with blu-ray units, which means a large amount of those people will be buying movies with blu-ray... then again, upscaling maybe the new hd...

the only problem is, that we need a high capacity disk, and because the limits of using a red laser have been seen, Development with the blue laser should continue...

As i see it, this is NO vhs vs beta because there a lot more companies involved and there's a lot more guns available here... Sony's not taken this war lightly either...

and also the rumoured $150mil payment they will be receiving for going exclusive made the choice easier. rumour was that MS brokered the deal. Nothing new though. Sony also apparently did the same thing.

I willing to be corrected but isn't the major difference between the two storage capacity?
