Tell them they must stop doing drugs

rather offer to find a wacky weed source for them, maybe after some they will think more sensebly?

the biggest taxis I have heard of can take a max of 16 people, with that being the number of seatbelts then.

I have these vivid images of 2 teachers and 32 kids to a mini bus...

My thoughts exactly. It's two classes going, each class has 15kids and 1 teacher. I'm not sure if they will be sending another teacher along for the trip. what are they planning? to strap two kids per seatbelt? *feeling ill just thinking about this*

Unless they are planning to stack the kids on top of each other lying down and securing all of them with some tie-downs, I would also have a big problem with this.

Keep your child strapped. you do it regularly. other parents probably dont see it as a problem. family will call me and say i saw you driving without your seatbelt. "you know the roads are dangerous" but hold an infant in their laps sitting next to the baby seat.

What outing is this? I don't understand why you would go through the hassle of taking 3 year olds on an outing. What is the purpose/point? I understand 5/6 year olds, but I think a bunch of 3 year olds under supervision of 1/2 teachers, in a foreign place, in a taxi, is a recipe for disaster.

It is an outing to a honey bee farm. To go with their theme of the week. But reading your post, and then adding bees to the mix... Think my kid can give this outing a skip. I'll find out if we can arrange an outing there over a weekend and I'll take her myself.

I think that 3 Year old is too young to be taken by a school outing. Maybe around 6 year old age yes. Is this a proper school creche? My ex is a teacher working with young kids and she would never had them take such young kids on a school outing

Not paranoid at all.

I had the same thing with my 3 year old and refused him the pleasure of the trip. Also made a big stink at annual parents meeting in this regard which brought some sense to the owners and other parents. Otherwise I would have been out of there!

3 years old is rather young for a field trip, I feel. If I was running the creche, I wouldn't take the risk of transporting my charges anywhere.

Hahaha - outing of 3yr-olds to a bee-farm in a taxi without seatbelts - spells out trouble.

As far as I remember, South Africa has no strict laws regarding the usage of child-restraints in cars - i.e. if there are seatbelts, then it is law to use it, but if there are no seatbelts children can be seated without a restraint. I think pretty much every country in Europe has strict regulations that children up to a certain age need to be harnessed in baby seats and from a certain age in seat-belts (and some of those need to be even child-friendly).

My 3yr old's school/creche has arranged an outing for the kids. They will be hiring a taxi and travelling an approx 30km round trip. I asked about seatbelts etc and though the taxi is equipped with seatbelts, I'm being told that I'm rather paranoid and should stop worrying.

Am I being paranoid?

1) When my child is in my car, she is strapped into a car seat
2) when she travels with anyone else (doesn't happen often at all), I provide her carseat

But now my child will be travelling with a complete stranger at the wheel, in a vehicle that has seatbelts but because the kids are little they only use the lap strap and hook the chest strap around the back of the child.

I'm not comfortable with this at all, and have asked if I can atleast provide my child's booster seat so that they can use the full seatbelt on her, and the teacher reckons I am beyond paranoid.

Any input will be appreciated.

Paranoid - no
My kids will not go anywhere without a seatbelt on - once wife forgot to strap the 2 year old in and the little one screamed at her.

Plus its the law! (Reg 213 IIRC)- Get another Creche and tell the school that they refuse to comply with the law on this who know what other laws they not complying with.

hahaha! that's funny!
I have no trouble letting go, had to get over that when I put her in creche. But until she is old enough to be responsible for her own safety it is my duty and responsibility to do the best I can, and putting her in a vehicle without providing the same safety features that I provide in my own car is not responsible.

Nevermind the taxi, what about the bee stings! (Disclaimer: don't know the setup at the place, maybe there is no risk)

hrm...chatted to 2 parents at pick up this afternoon. They've given no thought to the travel arrangements at all. They just accepted that the school it sorted since the cost of the outing includes travel.

Always amazes me how some parents just don't pay attention to the details...
I would be asking which transport company etc etc etc before I even considered allowing my child to go on the outing.

Jaysus, definately not. 3 is way too young and beside the seat belt issue, 15 kiddies in 1 taxi when 3yr olds are not really prone to doing what they are told, they will be all over the place in that taxi. Not a chance!
