Just joining my voice to the choir here. No you are not paranoid at all. From the sounds of it, you are the only responsible parent at the school. Simply opt out of the trip. Try to find a better creche for your kid, or find a way to change the one they are currently at.
3 Years Old is just not an appropriate age to be going on field trips. Heck I was at the JHB Zoo a few years back and a school trip of 6 year old kids came through. That looked tough enough for the adults to handle.

Don't even offer the car seat, as they probably wont know how to install it correctly, even if they gave enough ****s to want to install it. Just opt out.

Let's ask ourselves these two questions:

1. Will the 3 year old remember this trip in 20 years time? (whether he goes or not)
2. If something goes wrong, will you remember this trip in 20 years time?

had a chat with the school this morning, they're not impressed with me. Apparently I am the only person/parent EVER to question their judgement on travel arrangements. I suggested that they disclose the travel arrangements to the parents and request that the parents provide car seats. This suggestion was not met favourably as it will then take them an hour to get all the kids seated and strapped in, their solution however is to rather cancel future outings if parents are going to be 'difficult' I countered with the fact that safety should be priority, not an afterthought or inconvenience.

However, my child will not be attending this outing, or any other outing unless they make some changes in their transport, or if they inform us about the outing well in advance and I can arrange leave for the morning to drive her myself.

You need to have a chat with the other parents in that school...

I can guarantee you that if more parents knew their attitude to their childrens safety they'd be pulling their kids out of that school.

Suggest to the school that they bring the entertainment there.

Friends of mine's lil one is in a preschool where only the grade R's get outings. Otherwise they get the entertainment to go there. Those travelling shows include snake show/handling(not harmful), ponies_sheep_goats_other farm animals, dog shows, various puppets shows etc.

Well done!

I think this school needs a serious reality check. Accidents happen; they have a responsibility as caretakers of other people's children and if an accident ever happened they would face significant legal repercussions based extensively on their failure to provide adequate safety. You would think it'd be in their best interests

*victory dance* the school has cancelled the outing.
Seems like they have thought long and hard about it after our chat this morning

Keen to read the notice once they inform parents. Would love to see how they phrase it :p

Honestly, I wouldn't call it a victory dance.. for me, this incident has uncovered something that I would be very very worried about, and something that needs to be discussed with the school and the parents.

This.

Though the most important will be how things will move forward from here.

Without disclosing any particulars or names, the notice reads:

NOTICE: Dear Parents, the outing scheduled for tomorrow has
been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Regards...

They didn't see the need to use seatbelts :(

Unforeseen circumstances, such as a parent that actually gives a damn about their childs safety.

Do this little school have like a parents evening or something? If not, my suggestion is you discuss this with all the parents of the children you know directly... The school needs a bloody good wakeup call.
