So as some of you may know I am quite active on several forums from time to time especially in the VoIP arena. I had access to Telkom's Uniweb via kliq broadband when I used to be the operations manager there that I used to test and assist a lot of people in seeing if they can get VDSL in their area. I get up to 50 such requests a day. Then I get this one:
hi there
i am an extremely unhappy afrihost customer
are you with openweb?
i have cancelled with afrihost and need to change soon.
i have a business unshaped uncapped account 10m
i have been getting extremely erratic download speeds at any hours
the afrihost service has plunged
can you offer me something and do you know if vdsl can be obtained in the sea point cape town area or just durbanville-northern suburbs?
please email me at my email address
regards

I respond in kind by saying we are in fact using that exact same account and its fantastic. I suggest he tests his line and tries another account and mention that I have already tried Openweb and have not had great results.
Then I get this response:
"Your response is extremely suspicious-could you please identify yourself, if you are not an afrihost staff member?
i can only assume that you are a shill for afrihost.
just look at their hellopeter stats.
Dont believe me, but you will have to believe tons of people, whose complaints are highly consistent. !!!
my telkom line is perfect. and i have a second one in the house that is also perfect and runs off mweb and the service is perfectly consistent. so both telkom and mweb are fine, which invalidates the ridiculous assertions that you have made above
afrihost have admitted to me that they have had an increase in subscribers and that this has had a negative impact on their business uncapped 10m users as well, both in line speed, consistency and quality of customers support, so what you are saying is patently untrue
the minimum wait time to get through to a customer service agent is 10 minutes and i have waited 17 minutes at times.
you say, hope this helps?
helps deflect the blame from and misguidedly shield afrihost??, and deflect blame obscures the truth and obfuscates the core issues?
if this is what you mean then my answer is yes!!!"
WOW. That's all that I can say. Just for interest sake my line is limited to 8Mbps and I get full line speed 24/7 even if I download torrents.
Here is my speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3104378076
I run my company's hosted PBX off the line, do wirespeed downloads and so forth. I am really a happy customer of Afrihost.
So in conclusion Mr. Bearman please don't ask my advice if you don't want it and then accuse me of being a shill (whatever the eff that is)
