Parking Psychology - Minor Rant

I don't understand the minds of some drivers. Why is it necessary to get the closet parking to the entrance when it means:

1. Waiting for someone to unpack there groceries before they reverse out.
2. Blocking about a dozen other drivers who cannot pass.
3. Causing a queue that blocks traffic on the road
4. Circling the parking lot like a vulture waiting for its food to die.

Its not like we have unpredictable weather and you'll get wet (not like this will kill you any way).In the time it takes to wait for the parking YOU COULD WALK AN ETXRA 20 METRES AND BE IN THE SHOP BEFORE THE OTHER GUY EVENTUALLY PULLS OUT! I understand if the driver/passenger is old, ill, disabled, etc, or if there are simply no other parkings on the lot, but what makes perfectly healthy drivers think the other drivers have nothing better to do than wait for them? Are these people completely oblivious to other drivers or do they simply not care!?

These boards are frequented by all kinds. Perhaps there are valid reasons for what I've described above. Are there?

I totally agree, I find it totally crazy, I mean, even parking right at the back of a parking lot means what? An extra minute or two of walking.

I only ever look for a spot close to the entrance if it is either raining or icy cold. Otherwise I couldn't be phased to walk the extra 50-100m.

Seriously though, if there were open parking spaces further away from the entrance why not just pull in there instead of seeing how close you can get to the entrance? Seems like you are complaining about someone doing something you wanted to do.

If it's just me I'll wait. But some drivers are quite happy to let dozens of other drivers wait as well.

I would overtake and usually do go for the parkings at the back, but at the shopping centre I am thinking of (and probably true for others) the oncoming traffic is often continuous so I can't overtake/go round.[/QUOTE]

You notice how people take extra loooooong to pack their vehicles and get out of the bay when you're waiting for their spot.
This arrogance really pisses me off.

I have 4 kids, including 2 under the age of 5, so when we do grocery shopping it can take quite a while to get everyone in, seated and strapped. Why should I hurry just because another driver is waiting ?

Have the bigger kids and/or the wife strap the other 2 in, while you pack the groceries. It's not rocket science.

My point is that small kids aside,people love prolonging the agony of you waiting and they do it on purpose.

I've seen worse - some turds deliberately take their time to pack their stuff in the car, and then decide to go pay their parking ticket.

So if you got a line of cars and everyone is waiting for a closer spot, then how many minutes do you plan to wait? your second statement doesn't make sense. the OP already said he doesn't mind parking farther away.

seriously, if you want a parking space up close, then make a point to get there when opening (this is for those non emergency situations). no one needs to hurry up for any one else. hell, i take my time. When i get to the shops late in the day, i scan the whole parking lot looking for the big open gaps and then head to those spots (even if its so far away i need my passport)

It amazes me that laziness has got to the point that walking 100m to the entrance is too far. Nevermind the fact that A) you spend longer trying to find a close parking, and waiting for it, than you would just walking from a further away parking, B) women especially always walk far in shopping centers anyway, since they visit so many shops.

I hate having to push my trolley full of groceries all the way across the parking lot (dodging a couple crazy speed freaks & parking space hijackers in the process) to get to my car. So I will wait & even circle like a vulture until I get the spot close to the entrance.
