Hi all,

So, after having a spat with a group of people on Facebook about a car parking on a red line, I had one of them decide to take it a bit further.
He decided to contact me directly which I don't mind.

He has now taken a photo of my car (below) and sent me a e-mail saying:

Please see picture below of your car parked facing oncoming traffic, taken today, which is illegal and merits a traffic fine (I double-checked, yes, even if it's a designated parking spot).

I have tried to call the traffic department to get clarification but the phones just ring.

So, ask the next bunch of legends...

First picture is the picture he took of my car and I've marked the 2 parking bays that I generally use.

And the second picture is of my area where I live and park (no stalkers please!) But regardless, cars travel in both directions on both roads listed. (marked in red)

So I don't want to have to quote Mr above - but he can't be correct.

Thoughts? Comments?

PS: With that said, I've arrived home on many occasions to find Traffic Services handing out tickets, I park in the same places most of the time and I've never gotten a ticket from parking there - so I honestly think this guy is just trying his luck but it also never hurts to ask.

A. you cannot park on a red line.
B. regardless of the fact that the roads carry two way traffic, the law states keep left, and that you may not park/stop on the wrong side of the road facing oncoming traffic.

Your "friend" is correct, you are a grade A nimrod for arguing the point.

So from now on, I just turn my car around. Easy :)

What is going on there, there are like 6 cars parked there all in a block, city parking issues huh.

Nose into traffic makes it difficult to pull out. You will face oncoming traffic, and you have to pull out quite a bit before you as driver get a peek around the car infront of you. so you are a bit naughty with that.
And if that is a red line then that is really not cool.

I don't think you read properly...

Where you see my car parked facing the other Polo - those are 2 clearly marked parking bays, not red lines.
The only issue here is, I just need to park facing the other way.

Our initial "spat" started over a picture showing another car (someone we both dont know) parking on a red line.

Hence the 'If'. Sorry.
Get a old beetle, back and front look the same, problem sorted.

Might be mistaken, but I think an insurance claim might also be rejected in the event of an accident while parked into oncoming traffic.

Not necessarily. Insurance doesn't simply reject a claim where the law has been broken, they will look more closely at it and can go the route of hiking your excess. But why take the risk?

I drive past that place every single day - now I know where you live
