Hey Mybb,

So have a question,

I'm now 24 and I have not been out drinking or partying since early last year. Feels like im starting to settle into life and I have stopped partying. As for why I have stopped going 'Out' or 'partying' is basically cos of work, I'm pretty introverted and don't really enjoy being around people much, also been battling with health and drinking hasn't been fun for a while. I'd swear im in my 40's or something.

So gotta go out partying and went out last weekend to the usual places (3 places we always used to go to when i was around 18-22).. for some reason seems that most the places have been swamped by teenagers. Really not cool looking at these school girls that are damn hot but just too young for me now, i don't want jail bait anymore.

Where do the 22-25s party?(girls prefferably, dont particularly have any interest in mingling with other guys, got my friends already and happy with the handfull of them.)

I'm more into rock/metal but any decent place to go meet new girls preferrably working ladies and "maturer" that will have a decent conversation? Im in jhb and keen to go out this weekend.

I know a few have mentioned hobbies and dance classes or book clubs etc but surely you can still meet some girls out at parties or does that kind of thing only happen when you are younger? (18-21ish).

Also when did you stop partying hard? or just stopped at all? Is it normal or am i just rather weird?

im in jhb, mostly in the south/east rand.

I used to go out to places like
-Sundowners (just a pub that has bands playing sometimes).
-Black Dahlia
-Cool Runnings
-Tempo's

Went to sundowners the other day (In Alberton) and mostly just teenagers running around there. Like i said im used to going to places where mostly rock/metal bands play.

I can travel anywhere in jhb, driving around isnt an issue.

Seems the metal/rock scene is dying out.:



"I have been to many gigs at Sundowners (as it is pretty much the last place you can check out the local hardcore scene) and each time I am more and more disappointed with the venue.

This weekend was however the last straw. On countless occasions I have been there and the sound has, to say the least, been ****. Bands that are not actually terrible are made to sound so at Sundowners. It’s sad. It is destroying the potential of several bands.

This last weekend due to the lack of professionalism and care of the sound guy, it took the bands longer than usual to set up. One of the bands played a measly 4 songs. Now dude, come on, we travelled from the North, the bands don’t get paid, and you allow them to play 4 songs due to your incompetence in doing sound! Are you even qualified?

On previous occasions, plugs have sparked, wires melted together and nothing changes.

I have seen people begging the sound guy for more on vocals. On one occasion a band was calling from the stage for more vocals and the sound guy was at the bar having shots!?

Come on dude, step up. You are single handedly destroying the hardcore scene.

It sucks as it is that Sundowners is the only location to jam at, but you are making a bad name for yourself amongst bands and this will eventually lead to Sundowners ceasing to exist. Invest some money in decent equipment for heaven’s sake!

Just my thoughts.

This was posted in July, Guess i'm going to have to find other venues to go out and party. Any pubs any one can recommend?
 
If you're looking at Sundowners and going "rock/metal is dying out" then you're hanging out at all the wrong places.

The scene has evolved, definitely. I've been going to live gigs since 1999 (Never Machine Forever etc) Met all the bands before they went "big" (like Kahn and the guys from the Parletones). As the music and scene evovles, so does the places they hang out/play at.

Are venues who cater for live music at fault here? Yes. Do you keep supporting those venues? **** NO.

Go buy a ticket online for Zebra & Giraffe and Tanz Cafe tomorrow. I'd also suggest a (place that I forgot the name of right now) in Pretoria, close to Hatfield Square. Venues that don't care about the sound should be avoided. I miss Nile Croccodile :(
 
Tempos closed and last I heard the Black Dahlia closed as well. Cools has a slightly older crowd but mostly still a sausage-fest and certainly not the best place to pick up women. There are no other places in and around that area apart from High Flyers (upstairs) that might interest you...
 
Went to Doors last friday
Entrance was cheap, drinks were cheapish, music was good & woman were there in the plenty :)
 
thanks acidrazor, might actually just go watch zebra and giraffe at tanz, havent been there in a while.

havent been to high flyerz either in a damn long time, might have to go check them out aswell.

Doors, last time i went there wasnt very pleasant lol, they became very commercial but hey maybe things have changed in the last 3 years. previous memories though of cops coming in and beating people up and chucking them out the club is why i havent been in ages but thanks for the advice. If these "clubs" dont work then just gonna find a pool lounge or something to drink at with buds and wait until a fest comes up, will surely find females to mingle with then.

Come to PTA. All the rock/metal bands are here. JHB is just too, I don't know, cosmopolitan, doesn't work with rock. You guys like rap/pop/hiphop, and PTA is like the rock capital. I mean, just tonight, on a week night, for no special reason, some bands will be rocking Loftus. Bands are live here all the time.

Tings moved to Waterkloof Ridge. No bands play there anymore. Just a place to chill and smoke substances now. I suggest Aandklas for the hip rock/alternative lovers, Arcade Empire for all the famous local bands (Zebra & Giraffe playing there Friday if I'm not mistaken), and Schivas Rock for the metal fans.

If you want to meet people in their mid to late twenties I'd suggest Rust (very close to Arcade Empire) or Ridgebacks in Centurion.

I'm in the same conundrum, I'm working like a 40year old and only 23...

So I also came from an, metal, rave and clubbing scene.

What can a single person do, who is new in town, in the cape-town(Bellville) area?

I use to go out with friends and in groups, so I find it hard just to strike up a conversation with random strangers... but then again, my choice of topics aint helping me.

There was this one time when I was not so sober, I was talking with this lovely girl... then I noticed the blank look on her face... I was disappointed, as I hoped she knew at least some thing about WoW.:erm: ... Seems killing death wing does not impresse th ladies, :cry:

Women bore me, where can one pick those hot nerdy girls, gamer chicks up? I want a girl to watch series with, and play games. :love:

Great Dane (newtown) - Hipster club , Kitcheners(newtown) Hipster club
Town Hall(newtown) & The Woods(newtown) -- Often drumb n bass/electro parties such as GrietFest tomorrow, that is gonna be insane. But sometimes they have bands playing
Livingroom & the whole of maboneng precint in downtown joburg - best visited on sundays with the market, lekker rooftop jols, bioscope.
Greenside -- They have parties called Boosh on a sunday with bands jolling, pretty lekker.

I was going to suggest Doors as well but I saw you comment and it got me thinking... I have noticed on FB that a lot of my fru fru friends that like places like Movida and Vaka are now going to Doors, I don't think its because they have all of a sudden become less pretentious... I think its because Doors has changed.

hey atleast now i know its not only me :p

Also just mostly go out with buds, really bad at getting the girls, even when i played in a band and friends told me hey that girl there is checking you out i would some how fail at realising it and my topics of discussion really are pretty bad and landed up at the end of the night going home alone..

Ah well atleast i had drinks and band mates to hang with and wow when i got home, but hey cant be alone forever and gotta get out there to get seen or to find someone else.

Stop partying for like a year and seems everything has changed and no where to go, but hey a few suggestions here, gonna go check out doors tonight and see if its worth while partying there anymore. If not i know woodstock is around the corner, might just go party it up for a few days.

Goodluck in capetown, otherwise i would hook up and we could make a plan to party but your'e miles away.

Well-well, I will keep following this thread, I fit in with the Big Bang Theory guys... it's like watching myself on tv. :D Don't think clubbing with them would up my game. :erm:

I'll send you a pm some time, if I'm ever in your area, ;)

I use to get the girl, to come home, hot girls... but it turns out, they were bat sh*t crazy most of the time, at least nothing beats an wild adventure... if you know what I mean. :love: Oh one's youthful days... :p

Today, I am more interested in having a women, who will play games with me, listen to trance and other music, watch series & "and yes" Lan.. hehe.

I think it's really hard to find women who shares in similar interest, and most women at clubs these days hang around the fooz ball table, and that is the closes they'll ever come to gaming. :cry:
