When storing your mail server password to you:

A. Print it on a piece of paper, ensuring all 25 characters are correctly typed, then place it in an envelope and store in a very safe place.

B. Hand-write it on a small scrap of paper, ensuring that all similar characters, (especially "f" "t" "g" and 5), look alike; because deep down, all IT people are "hackers" who enjoy the challenge of trying to decrypt your infantile scrawl.

If you answered B then at least know that you are not alone :mad:

don't run a mail server but all my passwords are stored mentally. i do have a sequence of retrieval but posting it here would be stupid.

Always use the same password for everything, but use a different username. :D Everyone wants to hack a password, but no-one wants to guess a username. :D

Just kidding. Mentally is really the only way to go ... if you're young.

Everyone expects a password, so why use 1??:twisted::D

LOL. Problem with the mental thing is that it's kinda useless for your company if you get smacked by a taxi and your head comes loose. Sometimes you have to write it down. I just do not know why people cannot do so in a way that makes it possible for somebody else to read - or else why write it down in the first place???

Then use a password storage tool. We use PasswordSafe at the office. Yes, sound a bit daft to put passwords in a central location on a single machine. But to get it requires a administrator account and if someone gets in using an admin account then they really won't need to bother with finding other passwords anyway.

Are you planning a taxi hit in the near future? I thought about it, but I'd prefer being hit by a nice taxi and they all really look crap and rusty. I don't want to get tetanus in my corpse.

I store mine mentally, but have it written down on a small piece of paper in a safe place - the written password is encoded backwards in a 10+5+10 configuration! :p
