Hi Ppl,

I am trying to assist my Dad in Setting up his Pastel in a Network?
Basically there is a server and 4 PC's.
We want to save all the Pastel data on the server and have no data except the software on the PC's.

Has any body got some experience in setting this up?

It's been a while since I worked with Pastel but here's a quick overview:

*Install the software on all the required PC's and server.
*Setup the company on the server.
*When opening the company on the PC's point them to the location of the company on the server.

Make sure your users have access rights to the appropriate folders on the server and ensure that Pastel is set as an exception for your firewall.

Yup, this is how you do it. Just make sure you have 4 client licences.

We're using Pastel Evolution and it's much easier. Just install Evolution + SQL Server/Express on your server and Evolution as stand-alone on the client pcs. Then point them to the SQL server's port on the server.

Oh, I remember there was a "bug" on Partner 2009....you basically had to give full rights to everyone to the Partner folder on the server, otherwise you couldn't login.

Very nice security "feature". :p

So I got the setup like this currently:

Server : Partner 2009 Installed
4 Pc's : Partner 2009 Installed
When I register, I have to get the License from the server in C:\pastel09\custom\registration

That is working fine.

Then I go to open company, add company:

It gives me alot of icons with the companies BUT it all have and big X on it from different PC's like:

X COMPANY (PC01)

only the ones on the current PC is showing.
When I go add company and select a company on the server, it doesnt give me the ok option....

Have you deleted the default server on the pcs and pointed it to the server for registration?

After that, you should be able to add companies. Also, have you added the permissions on the server that the user you're trying to login with, has full rights to the Partner folder on the server?

Share the pastel folder on the server, then map that shared folder on the client PC's. When trying to open the company taht is on the server, point the client PC to the mapped drive and you should be able to open it.
