I have a Client that was using Pastel Xpress Startup 2005 on a single PC. I installed a second PC, and installed a upgrade version of Pastel Xpress 2007, it installed fine and all the data was imported into the new version.

I shared the Xpress07 folder on the "server". Now on the Second PC I installed Pastel Xpress 2007, Mapped the XPress07 folder from the server, edited the desktop shortcut and changed the "start in" directory to the mapped driver (xpress07 on server).

I also set the Gateway folder as instructed in the booklet.

Now on the Second PC, when I Click the shortcut, pastel opens but I only see the demo company and I cannot add my clients company although I can see the folder.
 
I really hate Pastel, so I never took the time to learn how it works, I hope my bump and useless reply help someone see your thread though ;)
 
You have to tell the client machine where to look, and register from the server machine. Then go add a company, once again you have to tell it where to find this. Make sure the client machine can "see" the mapped drive from Pastel. Also, i am not sure i understand what you did correctly, but the shortcut on the client pc should point to the exe on the client pc, only the database path should be to the server (mapped drive).
 
I hate Pastel too try setting it up to print on an Oki ....... custom forms.
And their support fees are something out of this world. I use to use a lady in JHB her company was called Petrol.

If you have a support contract with them, normally its bundled for the first year, give Pastel a call.
 
Pastel, the beloved enemy of IT people everywhere lol.

As said above, there's no reason to change the shortcut and point it to the server, you should run the local Pastel exe.

As for the other companies in Pastel, you need to click a button called Manage Companies or something like that, and then add and "activate" each one. I don't have Pastel near me at the moment or I'd give more detailed steps.

So Should I just leave the shortcut pointing to the clients exe, and then just add it from "Manage Companies" ??
 
I think I might have figured out the Problem, the PC acting as the server is running XP Home, and according to the Pastel Setup Manual, when using multiple users XP home won't work, it will only work in single user environments.

So, Can XP Home be upgraded to Pro without having to format?
 
I Managed t6o upgrade to XP Pro using a normal install disk. Now, when I was Trying to register pastel on the clients new PC, it connects to the Server but I get an invalid PIN Code error,

I choose "Workstation Registration", entered the Server Path (from mapped drive), when I click next I get the Error. I called Pastel Registration Dept. but they said I should call the Installation Dept for Help, they were closed so I'll have to go back tomorrow
 
Hope pastel support could help you out, you didn't need to upgrade to Xp Pro based on your post about access rights, Xp home has those features, but it's only visible in safe-mode ;)
