Hi all
I am at my wit's end and hope there is a genius out there who can help me!
You may have noticed that in the patch notes that there was a bit about adding the line 'SET gxApi "d3d9ex"' to your config.wtf file. This apparently improves textures for XP users and may solve some issues of the game crashing. Being an XP user and suffering from crashes, I decided to give it a try.
After clicking the launcher's play button, an error message came up referring to DirectX. Unfortunately, I did not take further note of it. The game did not open. I then tried to open it again and it opened fine. However, the picture was snowy and the colours were sort of bleached. Nevertheless, I played for a bit assuming that I could reverse the setting change and everything would go back to normal.
The really worrying thing is that it's not just WoW that has the snowy picture and strange colouration - it's everything!
I have tried the following to fix this (none of which has made a difference):
My video card:
Nvidia 7950 GT
My monitor:
Samsung Syncmaster 740N
Not the snowy Christmas I was wanting.
Any ideas?
Thanks very much!

I have tried the following to fix this (none of which has made a difference):
- Removed the line from config.wtf
- Replaced line with SET gxApi "d3d9" (apparently this is the default)
- Replaced line with SET gxApi "opengl" (something I got from the WoW forums)
- Updated graphics card driver
- Reinstalled DirectX (that itself caused other problems, which I seem to have sorted out now)
- Updated monitor driver
- Checked all cables are plugged in correctly
- Booted up in safe mode
- Tried monitor on a different PC - it worked fine
- Checked image when BIOS is open - it is fine. Snow only starts when Windows logo appears.
- Changed every imaginable setting for my graphics card
- Changed every imaginable graphics setting in WoW
- Reduced hardware acceleration to zero
